John Peter Lynn, Jr., died on October 6, 2017 in Asheville, NC.
Private funeral services will be held at the Chapel of the WNC Veterans Cemetery, Black Mountain, NC. Groce Funeral Home is serving the family.
John was born in Chicago, IL on Jan. 11, 1927. He attended Catholic Schools and DePaul University. He was a U.S. Army veteran having served in WWII. He was employed by Sunbeam Corp. for 32 years at the Chicago, IL and Forest, MS plants and the Forest Hughes Aircraft Corp. for 5 years. During that time he was Manager of Production & Inventory Control.
Survivors are his beloved wife of 67 years, Roseann Lynn; sons Michael (Carol), John P. III, (Carol ), daughter, Kathy Self (Rick); grandchildren, Richard Worthington, John F. Martin (Christie), Matthew J. Martin, (Amelia) John Peter IV, Audrey Bibb (Robert), Rachel Sharma (Rajiv); great grandsons Ian and Austin Bibb and Hudson Martin; and sister Patricia Carnahan; nieces and nephews.
He involved himself in many different ways of service to the Forest, MS community for over 50 years. He served as a member and President of the Forest Rotary Club and was honored by his club as a Paul Harris Fellow of Rotary International, and also in 2014, received the Lifetime Achievement Award for over 50 years of service to this club; served as Commissioner for the Forest Housing Authority; was a charter member and President of the American Production and Inventory Control Org. (South Central MS Chapter) served on the board of the Forest Public Library and he enjoyed being a part of the Men’s Morning Coffee Club.
He and Roseann were chosen by the Forest Area Chamber of Commerce to serve as Citizens of the Year in 2013. He loved his church, St. Michael Catholic Church, serving many years on the Parish Council, and the Finance committee; he was a High School Sunday school teacher; Lector and Eucharistic Minister.
After retirement, he and Roseann traveled in their camper throughout the U.S. and Canada; volunteered 5 years for the NPS, Fort Pickens, Pensacola, FL. Also during this time, he spent many hours in his shop building furniture, garden items, and creating stained glass projects. Charles Palmer said of him, “Now John is an exceptionally talented person and besides his talents, he’s just plain good and he can construct with unbelievable beauty almost anything if it is made from wood.”
