Lucy Horton Mitchell, “Meme”, age 86 and a resident of Brandon, MS passed away on Wednesday, January 6, 2021 at 11:15 am. She entered her eternal home with her children by her side at the MS Care Center of Raleigh, MS after a brief illness. Due to health and safety concerns, a graveside service for family only was held on Saturday, January 9, 2021 at 1 pm at the Fairmount Baptist Church Cemetery in Red Level, AL.
Lucy was born April 15, 1934 in Covington County, AL. She was married to Cliff Horton, Sr. (deceased) in March of 1956. They reared their children while living in Alabama, Arkansas and Mississippi. After several moves, the family settled in Harperville, MS. Lucy loved the Lord and faithfully served her home church of Harperville Baptist Church in various ways. She worked at Lackey Home Center in Forest, MS prior to beginning her banking career at the Bank of Forest before retiring on April 30, 1998.
After the untimely death of her husband, Cliff, she met and married Max Mitchell. They resided for a time in Forest, MS before moving to Flowood, MS. “Meme” and “Babaw” enjoyed retirement in Flowood, and were members at Flowood Baptist Church.
She loved her family and spending time with them brought great joy to her life. She will be missed by all who loved and knew her.
Lucy is survived by her 3 children, Jennifer Lariviere (Tom), Susan Cokely (Joe), and Cliff Horton, Jr. (Leigh Ann); 5 grandchildren, Collins Ros (Lindsay), Elise Wilson (Corey), Elaine Ros (Jimmy Foy), Jacob Cokely and Hannah Grace Horton; 8 great grandchildren, Noah Gardner, Jas Huston, Leland Huston, Charlie Ros, Conley Levi, Randi Marie Foy, Amira Wilson and DeKari Wilson; nieces, nephews and many friends.
