Our beloved Jesse Floyd Thrash began life in the Dixon community as the oldest child of Loyal and Ruby Thrash. He was born June 14th, 1936.
Jesse attended Sebastopol High School and graduated in 1954. While in school, he met his sweetheart, Bobbie Nell Monk. They were married in 1954.
Even in grade school, Jesse established his lifelong ethic of hard work by helping on his parents’ farm. Immediately after high school, he joined the Woolworth Company, working his way up to General Manager and trainer, moving around to live in Kentucky, Tennessee, Missouri, Arkansas, and Mississippi. Eventually, Sebastopol called him back; where Jesse and Bobbie Nell purchased their farm in 1959 and settled in 1965. They raised cattle, poultry, trees, gardens Jesse also became an inspector and grader with the USDA. In the 1980s he opened a tax preparation business and was a pillar of his community.
Family was one of Jesse’s favorite topics. He was the oldest of 6 children and is survived by his brother George of Morton and his sister Louise Ladd of Pelahatchie. His wife Bobbie Nell was the love of his life; they had a thriving 62 years of marriage, and 4 children. His oldest son Bobby Thrash and wife Marjory of Poplarville, MS, have four children: Andrew, Jenna, Bridget, and Michael. His oldest daughter Dianne and husband Stephen Watkins of Lake, MS, have 3 children: Jessica, Jason, and Eric. His daughter Tina and husband Chuck Murdaugh of Southaven, MS, have 2 children: Nick and Sharaden. The fourth child, Joey, passed away in 2008, but is survived by his son Davin and former wife Angela King of Brandon, MS. Jesse and Bobbie Nell were very proud of their 6 great-grandchildren.
Besides his family, Jesse enjoyed a wide circle of friends across the south, the north, and everywhere in between. He never ever met a stranger, and always had a firm handshake and welcoming smile. Travelling was Jesse’s passion, by driving to Alaska 3 times, across the south and west, and even Canada. Another pastime was fishing, whether in the pond behind the house, on the Big Black River, or on the coast. He also attended bluegrass festivals, worked word puzzles and loved his Bible.
Faith was a fundamental part of Jesse’s life. Jesse lived and died as a man of God. He was currently serving as a deacon at the Mt. Zion Church of God.
Bobbie Nell and family sincerely appreciate the extended family and friends for their prayers and support as we send Jesse to his justly deserved rest at High Hill Cemetery.
