Nellie D. Weger
Nellie D. Weger, age 105, a lifelong resident of Forest entered her heavenly home Thursday July 13, 2017.
Funeral services were conducted at 6 p.m. Saturday, July 15, 2017 from the chapel of the Ott & Lee Funeral Home of Forest. Visitation was held from 4 p.m.-5:30 p.m. prior to the service. Graveside services will be held at 4 p.m. from the Liberty Baptist Cemetery. Rev. Jerry Holmes and Rev. Steve Mooneyham and Rev. John Gardner officiated.
Mrs. Weger was born Wednesday, March 13, 1912 in Scott County where she grew up on her parents farm. She developed a great love for the outdoors and nature. She loved the farm life, growing cotton, hay and gardening were special to her. On the farm, she raised cattle, chickens and there wasn’t anything she didn’t know about the farm. She learned a real work ethic at a very young age as well as developed a fine character and value system. She loved and honored her parents…is there any wonder, she lived a long life. She was truly a Proverbs 31 woman. Mrs. Weger was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She was active in the Liberty Baptist Church where she served in numerous capacities, Sunday School teacher, WMU, church treasurer and served numerous committees. She lived a truly remarkable life and will greatly be missed by her family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; Robert Lowrey Harrison and Mary Allie Hawkins Harrison, her husband of 48 years Delbert Howard Weger, 7 brothers; Graham Harrison, Percy Harrison, Liles Harrison, James Harrison, Larther Harrison, Will Harrison, Ausborn Harrison and 1 sister Sallie Johnston. She was also preceded in death by her son, Rev. Allen Harrison Weger, great-great grandson Liam Isaac Mooneyham.
Survivors include her daughter Virginia W. Brown (Lloyd) of Forest, daughter-in-law Dolly Weger of Hattiesburg, sister-in-law Margaret Harrison, 2 sisters Mattie Ola Culpepper of Ringgold and Mary Ellie Hollingsworth of Goodhope. She also leaves behind a legacy of 9 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren and 10 great-great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers are Stephen Brown, David Brown, Chris Mask, John Gardner, Hans Weger, Allen Weger, Stacy Weger and Kirk Lundell.
H.L. “Buster” Black
Funeral services for Mr. H.L. “Buster” Black were conducted at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, July 24, 2017 from the Ott & Lee Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Sally Fran Ross and Bro. Reggie Chisolm officiating. Music was provided by Mike and Nancy Jones.
Interment followed in the Luther Chapel Cemetery with military honors under the direction of Ott & Lee Funeral Home in Forest.
Visitation was from 2:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 23, 2017 at the funeral home and on Monday from 9:00 a.m. – 9:45 a.m. prior to the funeral service.
Harold Lloyd Black was born in Smith County on May 21, 1926 and passed away Saturday, July 22, 2017 at Lackey Memorial Hospital in Forest at the age of 91. “Buster” as he was known among his family and friends, was a lifelong resident of Pulaski, and a retired mechanic from Sara Lee, Inc. After his retirement, he was proud of the fact that he was able to visit 49 of the 50 states, having been “with in eyesight” of Hawaii, but never went back there after his service in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He will be remembered for his joy of gardening and tree farming, and his earlier years of hunting, fishing and woodworking when his health permitted. He was a member of Magnolia Baptist Church in Smith County, and most recently attended Luther Chapel Church.
He was preceded in death by his wife: Ruby Hannah Black; one daughter-in-law: Ruby Black; his parents: Walter Scott and Luna Horsley Black.
Survivors include his two sons: Scott Black of Sumrall and Marty (Gigi) Black of Pulaski; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; and his only surviving brother: Henry Black of Starkville; and several nieces and nephews.
Serving as pallbearers were Matthew Winstead, Andy Bower, Warren Flynt, Glynn Hannah, Scott Hannah, and Rik Hall.
William ‘Bill’ Vaughn
Mr. William “Bill” Vaughn, age 51, passed away on Tuesday July 18, 2017 at the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson, MS. Visitation was held on Thursday July 20, 2017 from 5:30 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. and again on Friday July 21, 2017 from 9:00 a.m. until 9:50 a.m. at Wolf Funeral Services in Morton, MS. Funeral Services were held on Friday July 21, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. at the Wolf Funeral Services Chapel in Morton, MS with Rev. Marcus Canoy and Rev. Doyle Boyles officiating. Burial followed in the Homewood Baptist Cemetery in Forest, MS. Wolf Funeral Services in Morton, MS was in charge of the arrangements.
Born on January 20, 1966, Bill was a lifelong resident of Homewood, MS where he was a member of the Homewood Baptist Church. He was a 1984 graduate of Forest High School where he played in the band. He then went on to pursue a degree at East Central Community College where he was on the paper staff. He received his medical degree at Hinds Community College and went to work as a Med Tech at Neshoba General Hospital in Philadelphia, MS for over twenty years.
He is survived by his parents, Douglas and Brenda Vaughn of Homewood, MS; one sister, Tammy Roland (Phillip) of Carthage, MS; one niece, Betsy Roland; one nephew, Jed Roland; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Pallbearers were Steve Windham, Gene Boone, Justin Boone, Dave Crum, James Cook, and Ricky Foreman. Honorary Pallbearers were Steve Baylot, Gary Sullivan, Jay Taylor, and Jimmy Tingle.

Bonnie Brown
Bonnie McCormick Brown, 60, passed away Wednesday, July 19, 2017 at Merit Health Central.
Visitation was from 4:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. Friday, July 21, 2017 at Baldwin-Lee Funeral Home in Pearl. Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Saturday in the funeral home chapel with interment at Lakewood South Cemetery.
Mrs. Brown was born in Oak Grove, LA. She grew up in Morton, MS and graduated from Morton High School. She was a member of the High School Band and the FBLA. Bonnie loved spending time with her family and caring for her cats. She enjoyed reading spiritual as well as mystery novels and watching various TV programs.
She is survived by her husband Bruce; sister, Betty Phillips; and nieces and nephews, Chase Phillips, Earl, Greg and Brad Brown, Vicky Simmons, Kimberly Walters, Eric Brown, Casey Rather, and Chris and Kevin Penton.

Marcus Leon Weaver
Marcus Leon Weaver, 77, of Forest, MS died Monday, July 17, 2017 at his home. He was born Thursday, June 6, 1940 in Edinburg, MS.
Visitation was held Wednesday, July 19, 2017 from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Colonial Chapel Funeral Home in Forest. Funeral services were held Thursday, July 20, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. at Colonial Chapel Funeral Home in Forest, MS. Burial followed in Antioch Steele Cemetery in Forest. Bro. Bobby Warren officiated. Mr. Weaver will be remembered as a wonderful father, a caring and loving person, devout Christian, and always treated people with kindness. He always had a smile and enjoyed music.
He is preceded in death by wife, Carol Weaver; parents, Sylvester and Carrie Weaver; sisters Nadine Putnam and Melba Bankston; brothers: Floyd Weaver, Houston Weaver, and Gayan Lee “Red” Weaver; granddaughter, Paige Weaver.
Survivors include daughter, Angela Weaver; son, Shane Weaver (Bobbye); sisters, Frances Williams and Lorraine Murphy; grandchildren: Clayton Crain, Nathan Crain, Wyatt Weaver, Dustin Sanders, and Bobby Sanders,

Melinda Farmer Cooksey
Melinda Farmer Cooksey was born in Scott County on New Year’s Day, January 1, 1964 to her parents, Coyier and Dolly Vance Farmer. She passed away on Sunday, July 16, 2017 at Anderson Regional Medical Center in Meridian at the age of 53.
She was a lifelong resident of this area who enjoyed camping and fishing when her health permitted. She was a retired nurse and provided private home care to those in need in recent years. She was a member of First Baptist Church at Lake.
She is preceded in death by her son: Mitchell Cooksey; her parents: Coyier and Dolly Vance Farmer, and one brother: Paul Farmer.
Survivors include her husband of 19 years: Pat Cooksey of Lake; two children: Nathan Hollingsworth of Lake and Brittany (Alex) Thomspon and one granddaughter: Addison Brook Thompson, all of Quitman; and one brother: Michael (Kathy) Farmer of Conehatta.
She will be missed by her family and friends.
At Melinda’s request, there will be a memorial service held at a later date.

William L. Shaw Jr.
Memorial services for William L. Shaw Jr. of Forest, formerly of Indianola, will be announced at a later date.
Mr. Shaw, 63, died Thursday, July 13, 2017.
Mr. Shaw was a distinguished Mississippi educator, serving in several school districts throughout the state during his 26-year career. His roles varied from classroom teacher to principal, as well as many other administrative positions.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Sara Shaw of Indianola.
Bill is survived by his father, William L. Shaw Sr. of Indianola; five first cousins, Lanel Mangum and Peggy Fields, both of Jackson, Jerry (Joy) Boucher of Corinth, Buster (Beth) Boucher of Illinois and Dr. Kenny Shaw of Georgetown University in Washington, D.C.; and many other relatives and friends.
The family requests that memorials be made to the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson or to Fairview Baptist Church, 536 Fairview Road, Indianola.
