Opal Patricia Tate
Sunday, September 3, Opal Patricia Tate, surrounded by her loving family, peacefully left this earth for her heavenly resting place.
Visitation was held at Ott & Lee Funeral Home on Tuesday, September 5, from 5 p.m. to 7; and on Wednesday, September 6, from 10 a.m. to 11. Graveside services were held at the Hickory Cemetery in Hickory at 2 p.m.
Mrs. Tate was born September 8, 1931, in Newton County to Sam and Opal Lawson Everett. Most of her adult life she was a resident of Forest. She worked many years in retail utilizing her eye for fashion and style. Among her many talents and hobbies, Pat was an expert seamstress and used her creativity to cross stitch beautiful pictures which her family and friends will always treasure. She loved gardening and decorating her home. Pat was a member of Forest Baptist Church where she regularly greeted church members with her beautiful smile.
For years she organized and prepared meals for church gatherings and social events at the church fellowship center. She loved her church and community. Most of all, Pat Tate was devoted to her family and to living an honorable life. She enjoyed being with family and friends and will be greatly missed.
Pat was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Pat and Sandy Everett. She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Lyle Tate; three children, Beverly Puckett (Tony) of Madison, Shelia Bosarge (Clyde) of Long Beach, and Phil Tate of Madison; stepsons, Lyle Tate Jr. (Janie) of Brandon and Jimmy Tate of Houston; sister, Sandra Garvin (Larry) of Madison; and brother, Wadell Everett (Jackie) of Hickory. She leaves behind five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to The Alzheimer’s Association.
Minnie Dennis
Minnie Dennis, age 77, a resident of Lake died Monday September 4, 2017 at the Mississippi Baptist Medical Center in Jackson following an extended illness.
Graveside services were conducted at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday September 6, 2017 from the Dennis Family Cemetery near Lake. Rev. Ken McLemore officiated. Visitation was held from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Wednesday at Ott & Lee Funeral Home in Forest.
Mrs. Dennis was born in Mendenhall, MS on December 22, 1939 to her parents Lloyd Warren and Minnie Atwood Warren. She was a member of Sand Ridge Baptist Church. She loved her family, visiting friends and enjoyed being a homemaker, loving mother and grandmother. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband Marshall Dennis.
Survivors include her children, Sally Hare (Gary) of Brandon, Tammy Lee of Lake, Mike Dennis of Forest, Lesa Stuart of Kosciusko and David Dennis of Forest. She also leaves behind a legacy of 8 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.
Hannah Pope
Services for Ms. Hannah Pope were held on Saturday, September 9, 2017, at 2:00 p.m. at Pine Grove Pentecostal Church. Burial was in the church cemetery. Rev. Mark Copeland officiated.
Visitation was held Friday, September 8, 2017, after 6:00 p.m. at Pine Grove Pentecostal Church.
Ms. Hannah Pope, 20, of Sebastopol, died on September 6, 2017.
Survivors include her father and mother, Dewayne and Beverly Pope; maternal grandmother, Nona Davidson; uncles and aunts, Aaron and Debbie Davidson, Tommy and Dorothy Malone, Larry and Carla Pope, and Kevin and Angie Pope; special great aunt, Erlene Watkins and cousin, Gawen Watkins.
She is also survived by numerous cousins.
Ms. Hannah was preceded in death by paternal grandfather, David Pope; paternal grandmother, Mavis Manning and maternal grandfather, Elba Davidson.
Ms. Hannah Pope was a member of the Sebastopol Community for 20 years. She was a member of Pine Grove Pentecostal Church, Phi Theta Kappa and “ Who’s Who Among Students” in American Universities and Colleges. She had numerous awards in school; she also graduated from Pine Grove Christian Academy and East Central Community College. She was currently attending Mississippi State University, majoring in Elementary Education.
Terry Phillips
Charles Terrence (Terry) Phillips passed away September 2, 2017, after a sudden illness. Visitation was held on Sunday, September 3, 2017 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Ott and Lee Funeral Home in Morton and again on Monday, September 4, 2017 from 11:00 a.m. until 1:45 p.m. Funeral Services were held on Monday, September 4, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. from the Chapel of Ott and Lee Funeral Home in Morton, with interment at the Independence United Methodist Church Cemetery in Morton following the service.
Terry was born November 11, 1972 in Morton, Mississippi. He was a 1991 graduate of East Rankin Academy and received a BS in Poultry Science from Mississippi State University in 1994. Terry was a lifelong resident of Morton and well known throughout the Independence community as a local cattle farmer and business owner. He was also employed as a Receiving Supervisor with Koch Foods, Inc. He was a lifelong member of the Independence United Methodist Church and strong supporter and fan of the East Rankin Patriots. Terry loved his family and friends very much and especially his children. Someone shared there was not anything that he would not do for his children, because he loved doing things with and for them.
He was preceded in death by his father, Roy Phillips; brother, Tim Phillips; grandparents, Peek and Nell Lewis, and Burley and Bessie Phillips.
Terry is survived by his wife, Kristen Harvey Phillips; his son, Justin Phillips, his daughter, Makenzie Phillips; his mother, Bea Phillips; his sisters, Roxie Phillips (Bob) Laird, Rhoda Phillips (Joe) Benton; father-in-law, Lacey Harvey and mother-in-law, Lynda Harvey; brother-in-law Kevin L. Harvey; sister-in-law, Dianne Harvey; in addition to a host of nieces and nephews Terry is also survived by an innumerable amount of friends. Terry leaves behind a legacy of community service and involvement as well as love and admiration.
Serving as pallbearers were Patrick Benton, Freddie Wayne Phillips, Blake Benton, Lee Martin, Brian Rhodes, Bobby Gray, R.P. Vanderford, and Kevin Harvey. Serving as honorary pallbearers were Jerry Harris, Billy McCurdy, and Johnny Harrell.

Mary Jane Moore
Mrs. Mary Jane Moore, age 75, passed away on Thursday September 07, 2017 at her residence in Magee, MS. Visitation was held on Saturday September 09, 2017 from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Wolf Funeral Services in Morton, MS. Funeral Services were held on Sunday September 10, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. at Burns Baptist Church in Raleigh, MS with Bro. Carry Bass officiating. Burial followed in the Lingle Cemetery. Wolf Funeral Services in Morton, MS was in charge of the arrangements.
Mrs. Moore had lived in Magee, MS for the past year where she moved from Trenton, MS. She was an active member of Burns Baptist Church. She retired from the Bank of Forest in 2010 after twenty years of service. She enjoyed working in her flower beds, feeding her fish, worshipping the Lord, cooking, and spending time with her family. She was especially proud of her grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Lottie Cole; her brothers, Wayne Cole, Wesley Fred Cole, and Hershal Cole. She is survived by her husband, Jeffie Moore of Magee, MS; her sons, Lee Moore (Beth) of Magee, MS and Jason Moore (Kimberly) of Brandon, MS; her brother, Lane Cole of Vicksburg, MS; her sister, Nancy Cole Murphy of Vicksburg, MS; her grandchildren, Emma, Abby, Shelbi Claire, Garrett, and Jett.
Pallbearers were Jason Busby, Nathaniel Stewart, Stevie Austin, Garrett Moore, Anthony Smith, Danny Hawkins, and Caleb Bass.
