The Celebration of Life for Dr. Mariah Bender Bradford
Dr. Mariah Bender Bradford was born on September 23, 1929 in Bay Springs, Mississippi to the late Glasco Hunter Bender and Georgianna Holloway Bender.
Mariah was well known and loved for many things, certainly for the clarity and sharpness of her intellect; for the generosity of her spirit and for her indefatigable dedication to the students taught over her career span. Mariah earned a Bachelor of Science in Home Economics at Jackson College (Jackson State University) in 1953. She continued her educational path at Indiana University where she earned a Master of Science in Education. Following school, she began her career as a teacher and was certified to teach in the states of Mississippi, Indiana, and Arizona. She served in this role for over 40 years until her retirement in 1994.
Mariah is preceded in death by her parents, Glasco and Georgianna Bender, her siblings, Ruth Bender, Daniel Bender, John Nelson Bender, Josephus Bender, James Lee Bender, Levi Bender, David Bender, a grandson, Cameron Demond Bradford, and a great granddaughter, Teonna Caldwell.
She leaves to forever cherish her memory (3) children, Anita Caldwell, Demond Bradford II, and Kelvin Bradford (Kim), a loving niece, Anna Prestee Carr (Edison), (8) grandchildren, Denise Caldwell Obi (Francis), Dennis Caldwell Jr, Denita Caldwell Kelly(Cornelius), Allison Caldwell Broomfield (William), Ashley Bradford, Jared Bradford, Micaiah Bradford, and Eyndiah Bradford, (8) great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
The wake was held Friday, September 15 from at 6 p.m. at Mapp Funeral Home in Forest. The funeral was held Saturday, September 16 at Mt. Calvary Missionary Baptist Church.
Hendrix Norman “Buck” Carl
Hendrix Norman (Buck) Carl was born August 17, 1934, in Jackson, Ms., and died August 6, 2017, at Diversicare Nursing Home in Carthage, Ms.
He was predeceased by his wife, Nita Faye, and was a loving father to four children. They are David Carl, Kellie Carl, Jackie Huggins and Tanya Carl. His four grandchildren are Haley and Conner Dyess, Jaggar Folse and Shelly Carl.
He graduated from Mississippi College in Clinton and pursued a long career in teaching. His love of children led him to build and operate The Blue Dolphin, a swimming pool and entertainment center in Forest, Ms. He was a member of Good Hope Baptist Church in Forest, Ms.
Joseph Andrea Foster
Joseph Andrea Foster, 53, of Morton, passed away on Saturday, August 19, 2017. Foster was born on September 14, 1963, the son of the late Booker T. Foster, Sr. and the late Libbie Jean Laster-Foster.
Funeral services were held Sunday, August 27, 2017 at Greater Holy Hill Church of God in Christ in Morton. Elder Charlie Jones, Jr. officiated.
Foster was preceeded in death by his wife Nellie Ruth Ford-Foster and a sister Alice L. Foster-Knott.
He is survived by two brothers, Booker T. Foster, Jr. of Morton and Leonard J. Dorsey of Jackson; five sisters, Sarah D. Foster, Mirian N. Foster, Teresa L. Foster-Hughes and Bettye Foster, all of Morton; and Dorothy Jones of Chicago Illinois.
Lois Merle McDonald
Mrs. Lois Merle Sullivan McDonald, age 96, a resident of Forest passed away on Saturday, September 3, 2017 at her residence. Visitation was held 2 p.m. - 7 p.m. Saturday, September 9, 2017 at Kalem United Methodist Church and 10:30 a.m. -10:45 a.m. on Sunday at the church. Services were held 11 a.m. Sunday, September 10, 2017 from the Kalem United Methodist Church with burial at 2:30 p.m. at Clifton Baptist Cemetery. Bro. Scott Adcox officated the services. Arrangements were entrusted to the care of Ott & Lee Funeral Home in Morton.
Mrs. McDonald was born in Scott County on January 2, 1921. Mrs. Lois married Dee McDonald on March 10, 1943 and they had four children. She was a member of the Forest United Methodist Church and in her older years she attended Kalem United Methodist Church. She loved to quilt and enjoyed making them and giving to people she loved. Lois was a familiar face at the local grocery store, Sunflower Foods and she always had a welcoming smile for the people shopping. She was also known in the community for her wonderful baking skills. Lois enjoyed her family coming over where she always had a table of food awaiting their arrival. She will be greatly missed by all who loved and knew her.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Talbert “Tolly” Boyles Sullivan and Lula Leona Latham Sullivan; husband, C.D. McDonald; two sons, Michael McDonald and Dwayne McDonald; two daughters, Betty Sue Bullard and Seglenda Ellis.
She is survived by her grandchildren, Mitzi Alford, Wayne Ellis Jr., Ashley Bullard Hines, Morgan Bullard Harrison, Mandy McDonald Engle and Chris McDonald; six great grandchildren, Brandon Bagwell, Tyler Hines, Sjonea Hines, Matilda Harrison, Esme Harrison and Mackenzie “Kenzie” Grace Engle; two great great grandchildren, Brayden Bagwell and Jace Bagwell; daughter-in-law, Nettie Thomas McDonald; nephews, Ray and Tommy Hannah; best friends, Hester Gardner and Elizabeth Waggoner; many nieces, nephews and friends.
Pallbearers were Brandon Bagwell, Gaines Measels, Tyler Hines, Thomas Coley, Troy Hannah and Ray Hannah. Honorary pallbearers were Jesse Engle, Jack Thomas, Greg Walker, Chris McDonald Mike Crawford, Robert Long, Dwayne Madison and Kenny McDonald, Jonathan McDonald, Adrian Hunter and James Colyer.
Memorials may be made in her name to Kalem United Methodist Church.
Stanley J. Benton
Funeral services for Mr. Stanley J. Benton were be conducted at 11:00 am on Wednesday, September 13, 2017 from the Mt. Olivet Baptist Church with interment in the Clifton Baptist Cemetery under the direction of Ott & Lee Funeral Home in Forest.
Rev. Bobby McKay officiated the service and music was provided by Mrs. Tammy Bell, soloist, and Mrs. Dianne Morris, pianist.
Visitation was from 5:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 12, 2017 at the funeral home and on Wednesday one hour prior to the services at the church.
Stanley Joy Benton was born October 13, 1940 and passed away September 10, 2017 at the age of 76.
The Scott County native was a retired farmer and a retired employee of the United States Postal Service. Remembered as a jokester among his family and friends, his love for his family will be called to mind for generations to come. Gardening, fishing and hunting were favorite past times, as was being a “chef” — known for his “Stanley Burger” by his grandchildren. Mr. Benton was a member of the Mt. Olivet Baptist Church.
He is preceded in death by his wife: Rose M. Benton and his parents: K. J. and Edna Alline Greer Benton.
Survivors include his four children: Tommy (Deniece) Benton, David (Suzette) Benton, and Anne (Randy) Cahoon, all of Forest; and Karen (Ernie) Francis of Bay St. Louis; seven grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; one brother: Tonia (Jean) Benton of Pearl; and the mother of his children: Mrs. Betty Benton of Forest.
Mr. Benton enjoyed the company of his friends and the staff at the Madden Lighthouse, and the family would like to express their appreciation for the care that he received during his stay there.
Pallbearers for the service were Steven Benton, Devon Weems, Tyler Cahoon, Jeremy Wheeler, Tonia “Junior” Benton, and Timothy Benton.
Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Kenneth Benton and Richard Pope.

Jerry Dewayne Williams
Mr. Jerry Dewayne “John Deere” Williams, age 47, passed away on Wednesday September 13, 2017 at his home. Visitation was held on Friday September 15, 2017 from 11:00 a.m. until 11:50 a.m. at Wolf Funeral Services in Lake, MS. Memorial services were held on Friday September 15, 2017 at 12:00 p.m. at the Wolf Funeral Services Chapel in Lake, MS. Bro. Bruce Robinson officiated. A graveside service with military honors followed in the Mississippi Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Newton, MS at 2:00 p.m. Wolf Funeral Services in Lake, MS was in charge of the arrangements.
Mr. Williams had lived in Lake, MS for the past nine years where he moved from Lena, MS and was of the Baptist Faith. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved hunting, fishing, mud riding, and spending time with his family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Joyce Williams and his brother, Richie Williams. He is survived by his three children, Archie Dewayne Williams (Mindy) of Lake, MS, Dakota Lane Williams of Lake, MS, and Laura Cheyenne Williams of Lake, MS; two sisters, Sherry Foster of Preston, MS and Diane Pitre of Denham Springs, LA; one brother, Bruce Robinson of Dothan, AL; special friend and caregiver, Mary Brown of Conehatta, MS; five grandchildren, Blakeland Williams, Rylington Williams, Jaxington Williams, Karalyda Williams, and Bryler Williams; and a host of nieces, nephews and many friends.
