Alvyn Webster Moore
Alvyn Webster Moore, 88 of Union, Mississippi passed away August 29, 2017 at J G Alexander Nursing Home in Union. Services were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, September 2nd at First Baptist Church of Union with burial in the Union City Cemetery. Open visitation was at the church beginning at 10 a.m.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 62 years, Jean Eaton Moore; parents Roy and Ruby Moore; two brothers Fred and Norris Moore and two sisters Grace Moore Murphree, Jewell Moore Harper and nephew Duaine Moore.
He is survived by two sons, Brian Moore (Lynn) of Houston, TX and Gary Moore of Ruston, LA; and a daughter Joyce Moore Holifield (Mike) of Union, MS; four grandchildren, Haley Moore of Houston, TX, Garrett Moore of Vicksburg, MS, Sam Moore of Union, MS and Tori McElhenney of Starkville, MS; numerous cousins, nieces and nephews from the Moore and Eaton families too numerous to name; sister-in-law Eddie Mrytle Cooper Moore (Norris); and many special friends including Dean Russell of Union and Bob Johnson of North Carolina.
Serving as pallbearers were grandsons Garrett and Sam Moore; nephews Tommy Norris and John Moore; great nephews David, Jeff and Dan Moore, and Robert Carleton; and son-in-law Mike Holifield. Honorary Pallbearers were Wall Sunday School Class, Union Lions Club and nephews Gayden Harper and Bill Murphree. Dr. Jon Martin, Dr. Marcus Finch and Rev. Byron Howell officiated.
Mr. Moore was a long time resident of Union and member of the First Baptist Church. He was a faithful and devoted Christian, an ordained Baptist minister and deacon and served as minister of music in over 10 Baptist churches including First Baptist Philadelphia, First Baptist Union, Neshoba Baptist, Pinckney and Beulah Hubbard. He also served at Shandon Baptist Church of Columbia, SC and First Baptist of Vicksburg, MS. He worked for Philadelphia agency of Southern Farm Bureau beginning in 1987 until his retirement.
He earned a Bachelor of Music degree from Mississippi Southern College in 1952 and a Masters in Sacred Music from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary.
He was born October 28, 1928 in the Crossroads community near Pelahatchie, MS in Rankin County.

Joe White
Funeral services for Mr. Joe White were conducted at 1:00 pm on Thursday, August 31, 2017 from the Ott & Lee Chapel with the Rev. Matt Clark officiating. Interment followed in the White Family Cemetery in Smith County under the direction of Ott & Lee Funeral Home in Forest.
Visitation was from 5-8 pm on Wednesday, August 30, 2017 at the funeral home and one hour prior to the services on Thursday.
Joseph Taylor White, Sr., was born on October 29, 1950 in Magee and passed away on August 29, 2017 at Baptist Medical Center in Jackson at the age of 66.
He enjoyed hunting and fishing when his was able, and also loved raising a garden, in particular sunflowers. Attending football games and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren were favorite past times. He was a member of the Church of God by profession of his faith.
He is preceded in death by his parents: Rev. Ray White and Mrs. Dolly Mae Ellis White; and one brother: Gary White.
Survivors include his wife of 45 years: Mrs. Itaska “Tassie” White of Forest; five children: Joseph Taylor (Tracey) White, Jr.; Gary Dale (Jenni) White; Jeffrey Wade (Tina) White, and Mark (Ashley) May, all of Forest and Billy Jason (Jessica Waggoner) White of Marydell; five siblings: Michael White of Lake; Jerry (Susan) White of Madden; Becky (Joe) Campbell of Forest; Jonathan (Betty) White of Philadelphia; and Greg (Carolyn) White of Meadville; seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Serving as pallbearers were be his sons: Joe, Gary, Jeffrey, Mark, and Billy; and Stepphon Sykes.
Maxie L. “Mack” Purvis
Mr. Maxie L. “Mack” Purvis, age 71, passed away on Friday August 25, 2017 at his home in Forest, MS. Visitation was held on Sunday August 27, 2017 from 12:30 PM until 1:50 PM at Wolf Funeral Services in Morton, MS. Funeral Services were held on Sunday August 27, 2017 at 2:00 PM at the Wolf Funeral Services Chapel in Morton, MS with Bro. Bobby Warren officiating. Burial followed in the Harperville Cemetery in Forest, MS. Wolf Funeral Services in Morton, MS was in charge of the arrangements.
Mr. Purvis was a lifelong resident of Scott County, MS where he was a member of the Covenant Baptist Church. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved to hunt.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Oscar and Eliza Purvis; his wife, Judy Purvis; and his sister, Winnie Thornton. He is survived by his daughter, Angie Sistrunk Crimm (Gerald) of Forest, MS; his brother, Jerry Purvis (Omega) of Morton, MS; his sister, Dot Sanders (Wayne) of Morton, MS; brother and sister in law, Bruce and Kathy Thrashe; two grandchildren, Samantha Sistrunk and Mitchell Crimm; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Pallbearers were Gerald Crimm, Nick Muirhead, Ethan Rigdon, David Putnam, Ray Crimm, and Ricky Purvis.

Marty Corley
Services for Mr. Marty Corley were held at 3:00 pm, Sunday, September 3, 2017, at Salem Cumberland Presbyterian Church. Burial followed in the Church Cemetery. Rev. Delbert Lathem officiated.
Visitation was held from 1:30 pm until 3:00 pm Sunday, September 3, 2017, at Salem Cumberland Presbyterian Church.
Mr. Marty Corley, age 68, of Sebastopol, died August 31, 2017. Marty was a member of the Arlington National Cemetery Honor Guard when he volunteered to take his brother Russell’s place in an area of combat because Russell had two small children. He was in the country in Long Binh, Vietnam. He was a military policeman and drill sergeant while in service.
Returning to Jacksonville, Texas, he was a member of law enforcement before going to South Carolina and working in retail management before moving to Mississippi in 1981. Most of his career was spent as an over the road driver for Nolen Sistrunk Trucking.
His passion was riding Harley Davidsons. He was a member of the Masons and the Eastern Star.
Survivors include his wife of 38 years Linda Corley of Sebastopol. Daughter, Jennifer Jackson and husband Anthony of Walnut Grove. Two sons, Jonathan Corley of Sebastopol and Jeremy Corley and wife Katie also of Sebastopol. Four grandchildren, Ayden Jackson, Mya Jackson, Brayden Jackson and Jhett Corley.
Mr. Corley was preceded in death by Parents Victor and Betty Corley; one daughter, Emily Corley and a son, Shannon Corley; and three siblings, Russell Corley, Mary Cook, and Debra Kinsley.
Van Earl McMillan
Funeral services for Mr. Van Earl McMillan were conducted at 11:00 am on Tuesday, August 29, 2017 from the Ott & Lee Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Doug Moore officiating. Interment followed in Eastern Cemetery under the direction of Ott & Lee Funeral Home in Forest.
Visitation was from 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm on Monday, August 28, 2017 at the funeral home and one hour prior to the services on Tuesday.
Van Earl McMillan was born August 6, 1955 at Lackey Memorial Hospital and entered into eternal rest on Sunday, August 27, 2017 at his home.
He will be remembered as a simple man who loved his family and was a farmer by profession, particularly in the poultry and cattle industry. Beyond his love for farming, riding horses and bowling were two of his favorite past times. He was a Baptist by faith and held membership with the East Forest Baptist Church.
He is preceded in death by his parents: Owen Freeman and Frances McDill McMillan and one nephew: John Wilson McMillan.
Survivors include his wife of over 37 years: Mrs. Gail McMillan of Forest; three daughters: Vanna Gail McMillan of Gulfport; Amber Lynn McMillan of Memphis, TN and Morgan Owen McMillan of Forest; two brothers: Steve (Faye) McMillan and Terry (Sarah) McMillan, both of Forest; one special aunt: Reba McDill Hatch of Newton; eight nieces and four nephews also survive.
Serving as pallbearers were Gary Peoples, Steven Peoples, Caleb Cox, Heath Clark, Ted Hollingsworth, and Brandon Moore.
Honorary pallbearers include Kerry Hammons, Bruce McMillan, Donald Cox, and Stanley Barnett.

Holly Hall
Funeral services for Mrs. Holly D. Hall were conducted at 2:00 pm on Sunday, September 3 from the Ott & Lee Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Larry Duncan and Rev. Tommy Anderson officiating. Interment followed in the Salem Baptist Cemetery under the direction of Ott & Lee Funeral Home in Forest.
Visitation was on Saturday, September 2 from 5:00 p.m.–8:00 p.m. at the funeral home and on Sunday one hour prior to the funeral service.
Mrs. Hall, age 63, and a lifelong resident of Scott County passed away on Thursday, August 31 at the St. Dominic Memorial Hospital in Jackson.
She was a retired supervisor for Raytheon, Inc. Family was very much a part of Mrs. Holly’s life as her actions showed the loved she had for them, especially her grandchildren. An avid reader, antique store browser, and one who enjoyed working in her flowers, she will be remembered for her enjoyments of vacationing and traveling. She was a Christian by faith and a member of the Church of God.
She is preceded in death by her parents: Guy and Willie Hollingsworth Graham and two sisters: Ruby McDill and Maudine Lay.
Survivors include her husband of 32 years: Mr. Lessie Hall of Forest; two children: Shannon (Kimberly) Cook of Forest and Scott (Pam) Hall of Sebastopol; six grandchildren: Roc Cook, Landen Cook, Brayden Cook, Devin (Meagan Perry) Hall, Marley Hall and Jordyn Hall; two sisters: Guyrene Everett and Sara Gay, both of Lake; and one brother: Tommy Graham of Meridian; several nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers were Roc Cook, Landen Cook, Brayden Cook, Devin Hall, Cody Everett, and Hunter Graham.
Honorary Pallbearer was Ladarius Townsend.
