A Celebration of Life Service for Robert Michael (Mike) Horne will be held at 2:00 PM Sunday, October 22, 2017 at Kalem United Methodist Church.
Mike went to be with the Lord Sunday, August 6, 2017 at the age of 64. He fought a courageous battle with cancer and inspired everyone who knew him. Survivors include his daughter, Alexandra (Alex) Nicole Horne of Cordova, Tennessee; sister, Paula Horne Covington (Ken) of Meridian; step-children, Bruck and Haley Henne and their Mother, Julie Horne Brooks, of Scottsdale, Arizona; he was preceded in death by his parents, Cecil Ashley Horne and Dorothy Joy Boykin; maternal grandparents, Robert Lee and Mattie Boykin; paternal grandparents, Sam and Merle Horne. Born in Raleigh, Mississippi July 20, 1953.
Mike spent his childhood years in Morton. Upon graduation from Morton High School in 1971 he received a four-year basketball scholarship. Mike attended East Central Junior College for two years where he averaged 22 points per game. From there he transferred to Mississippi College where he played for the Choctaws.
Mike had more than three decades of marketing experience which spanned broadcasting as well as traditional, direct response and digital marketing. He launched, rebuilt and managed from start up several highly successful business operations, including SpinSix and Results Media Group. He was recognized throughout the marketing industry for his ability to analyze and effectively address even the most difficult marketing and business-related assignments.
He was a leader within the local community, having served on the boards of Valley Big Brothers, Big Sisters, Metro Phoenix Broadcasters Association, Silent Witness and Phoenix Suns Charities. Mike was a tremendous fan of music and thoroughly enjoyed playing his guitars.
He loved heading to the beach whenever he could and enjoyed spending time with friends and family. Throughout Mike’s life his fighting spirit, professional drive and love of life would result in a great deal of person and professional success which he shared with many others.
If you knew Mike you were the fortunate one. The family would like to thank the team of doctors, nurses and chaplains at Gateway Banner Hospital in Gilbert, Arizona as well as Dr. Tom Dragovich and the oncology nurses at Banner MD Anderson cancer Center.
