Jackson — Mrs. Verda Mae White, 81, passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 24, 2017. Visitation was on Sunday, June 25, 2017 from 5-7 p.m. at Chancellor Funeral Home in Byram and one hour prior to the Noon funeral service on Monday, June 26. Interment was at at 3 p.m. on Monday June 26 at Salem Cumberland Presbyterian Church Cemetery in Sebastapol, MS
Mrs. White, a long time resident of Jackson, MS, and a member of Fellowship Baptist church. She was raised on a farm in Oak Grove, LA. She loved her family, cooking, animals (especially kittens), blue grass music, drinking coffee with her best friends, Ruby White and Ollie Biggert. She was a proud member of the Magnolia Blue Grass Association. She was a wonderful, loving caregiver to elderly family members and friends. Mrs. White was often found playing baseball in the backyard with her children as they were growing up. Her love for her grandchildren was expressed by caring for them daily and teaching them colors, numbers, and how to write. She never met a stranger, was loved by many and will be missed by all who knew her.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Troy and Alpha Martin; a son, Joseph White; and a grandson, Joshua Dunn. She leaves behind her adoring husband of 59 years, Herbert White of Jackson; a son, Danny (Sherry) White of Lena; daughters, Iris (John) Smith of Learned, and Mary (Kenneth) McGrew of Braxton; a brother, Travis (Bobbie) Martin of Oak Grove, LA; a sister, Alilee Seymour of Monroe, LA; 9 grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
