Mr. W.J. “Dub” Measels, Jr., age 91, a resident of Morton passed away on Thursday, June 11, 2020. His visitation was held from 4-7 p.m. Saturday, June 13, 2020 at Ott & Lee Funeral Home in Morton. Graveside services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, June 14, 2020 at Groveton Presbyterian Cemetery. Bro. Paul Smith and Bro. Joey Smith officiated the services. Arrangements were entrusted to the care of Ott & Lee Funeral Home in Morton.
Mr. Measels was born in Scott County on December 4, 1928. He loved life and loved living life to the fullest. W.J. was a Scott County Supervisor for 32 years. He loved being outdoors and going to deer camp with his wife, Anita. He loved all kinds of hunting; deer, elk, squirrel and even enjoyed going fishing with his friends. Dub, as most people called him loved his little fur baby, Oliver. W.J. loved his family and will be greatly missed by all who loved and knew him.
He is preceded in death by his parents, W.J. “Bill” Measels, Sr. and Essie Wallace Measels; siblings, Jean Irby (Bobby) & Margaret Merchant (Charles); nephew, Reggie Merchant.
He is survived by his wife of almost 30 years, Anita Harrell Measels of Morton; children, Clark Measels (Nenette) of TN, Melody Pickett (John) of TX, Rebecca Moss (Jeff) of Fannin, Joshua Kennedy (Nicole) of Morton and Sam Measels (Emily) of Brandon; 7 grandchildren, Lori, Abby, Kathryn, Jarrett, Ian, Raylee and Callen; niece, Bobbie Jean Jones and a host of friends.
Pallbearers were Jarris Patrick, Ian Kennedy, Andy Smith, Cory Rawson, Lane Withers and Pete Alman. Honorary pallbearers were be Michael Bilbro, Jerry Mitchell, Wilbur McCurdy, Fred Jones Poindexter, Will Green Poindexter and Roger Dale Tadlock.
