U.S. Completes Chinese Spy Balloon Recovery
It took the Navy 12 days to recover the balloon from the ocean floor as rough weather and rough water affected the operation. The U.S. Pathfinder, survey ship, with Sonar and other means, was used to map out the debris field. The field was estimated to be roughly 5,000 ft., or more than 15 football fields — slightly less than a square mile. The Commander, Glen VanHerek, described the Balloon as close to 200 ft. tall with payload the size of a jetliner. It was sent to FBI Lab in Quantico, Virginia.

On March 7, 1944 she was declared lost at sea!” During the war 52 submarines were lost with a total of 3,506 officers and enlisted men killed (This should remind us of our freedoms cost!)
