Forest Municipal School District Robotics Team 31720, known as the Robocats, traveled to Warren Central High School in December, to compete in the Vicksburg Scrimmage Invitational. The event marked an important milestone for the district’s rookie robotics team.
Although the Robocats experienced a challenging start, the team rallied during the second half of the scrimmage, steadily climbing the rankings. Their strong performance earned them a spot in the Alliance Elimination Match, where they ultimately secured a second-place finish at the invitational. “The competition was a great learning experience for our students,” said Dr. Ben Reiss, Robotics Coach for FMSD. “For a rookie team to rally, adapt, and finish second speaks volumes about their determination and teamwork.”
The Robocats compete through FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology), a global nonprofit organization dedicated to inspiring young people to pursue science, technology, engineering, and mathematics through competitive robotics programs. Team 31720 is currently competing in the Mississippi FIRST Tech Challenge and is preparing for its first official qualifier event, scheduled for February 7 in Meridian.
