Rally for Renita is the battle cry going out all through the Sebastopol community and beyond.
A rally for Renita Graham Wilcher, a mainstay in the community, is scheduled for Saturday, April 26, at the Co-op Community Center at Bishop Park in Sebastopol.
Wilcher, a nurse, has had to give up her career as she is battling serious health issues. The bottom line is she needs a liver transplant — either from a cadaver or from a living donor.
Disappointment came a few weeks ago as Wilcher and husband Brad were called to New Orleans in hopes of a donor liver being a match. Unfortunately, after a quick trip to the hospital, it was discovered that the donor was not compatible, so Wilcher is back to waiting for the call that will provide the needed liver.
Throughout this ordeal, she has shown great courage; she knows what she can control and courageously trusts God with what she cannot. Because she trusts God with tomorrow, she can have peace for today. Wilcher faithfully serves her God through her work at Rocky Hill Church of God where she uses her beautiful voice to sing in the choir each Sunday.
A middle child, Wilcher has two sisters Penny and Becky. She has three children, Dee, Madison (Donnie) and Brandon (Delaney). She is Honey — grandma to five grandchildren — a “job” she loves. Wilcher receives great support from her children, grandchildren, and her husband Brad.
Wilcher works within the community and serves on the Sebastopol town board. She is always there to help anyone in need, but the time has come when she needs the help and support from her family, friends, and community.
This Saturday the Rally for Renita benefit is being held. The rally offers a variety of events and many chances to help in this fundraising effort. Tee shirts have already been sold. Chicken plates have been presold, but extras are being prepared for purchase on Saturday. Plates are available for pick up form 10 until 2. In addition, plates may be purchased during the auction that will begin at 5:00 p.m.. Plates are $10 each.
Many great items have been donated for auction, one of those being a cruise for two. There will also be singing during the auction time and concessions will also be available for purchase.
“Everyone is encouraged to participate in the Rally for Renita as she patiently waits for that life-saving transplant,” organizers said. “Costs associated with the transplant are extremely high and every bit of help no matter how big or how small makes the path to healing so much easier for Renita and her family. Remember this Saturday is the day to contribute to this worthy cause.”
