The Morton Panthers welcomed visiting Wilkinson County this past Friday as the Panthers celebrated Senior Night in their 2018 football regular season finale. The Panthers dropped the game to visiting Wilkinson County but they had already earned a berth in the 2018 Mississippi 3A playoffs. They will travel to take on Columbia High School this Friday night.
Although the Panthers suffered a lost in this senior class’s final home game, that will have no bearing on the memories they have of being a Morton Panther. The current seniors have not yet completed their career in the Morton Panther uniform as they have at least one more game to play for MHS.
The Panthers suffered a 34-7 loss to Wilkinson County and dropped to 3-8 on the season. The visiting Wildcats scored early and often, and speared the scoring over four quarters. Wilkinson County found paydirt in each quarter and earned the victory over the homestanding Panthers.
Morton’s lone touchdown on the night was fittingly scored by senior workhorse RB Von Jennings. He scored his last TD on Panther Field early in the second quarter and even though it was his last TD on his home field he has many TD runs to look back on when remembering all the times he made his way to the football promised land in a MHS uniform.
Morton finished third in 3A Region 5 and will travel to face Region 8 runner-up Columbia High School (8-2) this Friday night. The first round 3A playoff game is set to kickoff at 7:00 p.m. in Columbia.
