The Scott Central Rebels hosted Sweet Water High School for their homecoming game and while the homecoming queen was announced during the game the Rebels were kings of the football field. The Rebels dominated the visiting Bulldogs from Alabama from beginning to end on their way to a 32-6 victory which moved them to 6-0 on the season. Scott Central is ranked in the top 3 in Mississippi 2A football and this victory showed why the Rebels are so highly ranked.
Head Coach Devine Cooper said he is proud of his team for performing on both sides of the football and playing a sound game against a well coached Sweet Water team. “Our offense and defense did a great job of executing the game plan,” said Cooper. “Several players contributed to our success on offense and I was proud to see some guys step-up and replace some injured offensive linemen and not miss a beat.”
The Rebels received the opening kickoff and wasted no time working their way downfield. Four minutes into the game QB Jackie Donald found Kimond McDonald for a 9-yard scoring strike. After missing the PAT the Rebels had a 6-0 lead. After holding the visiting Bulldogs on their offensive possession, the Rebels went right back to work on offense. SC moved the ball to midfield before Lajavus Patrick used solid blocking to go 50-yards untouched for the Rebels second TD of the night giving the home team the 12-0 lead. Sweet Water would add a late first quarter touchdown to make the game 12-6 as the quarter ended.
When the second quarter got underway it was all Rebels as they moved the ball at will and the defense was stout as usual. The Rebels scored one minute into the second quarter on a Kimond McDonald 1 yard run to extend their lead to 18-6. The Rebels would add one more score late in the quarter on a Jabrelyn Vivians 25-yard touchdown scamper up the middle. The homestanding Rebels would take commanding 26-6 lead into half time.
The third quarter opened and both teams had trouble moving the ball and threatening to score. The third quarter would run through and come to an end with the score remaining 26-6. In the fourth quarter the Rebels would find paydirt one last time to put the game far out of reach. This time it was big man Hydde Barlow taking the ball the final 12 yards to give the Rebels a 32-6 lead which is how the game would come to an end.
This Friday night Scott Central is set to host division foe Newton. “Newton is always athletic and talented,” said Cooper. “We will have to do a great job of being disciplined this week and work hard this week to improve in all three phases of the game.”
Kickoff is set for 7:00 p.m. Friday night at Scott Central as the Rebels will look to remain undefeated and move to 7-0 on the season.
