The Scott County Sports Hall of Fame is planning the induction of its Class of 2025 nominees, recognizing former athletes, coaches, and contributors who excelled in their sports. This induction will also conclude a year-long celebration of a 10-year anniversary.
The ceremony is set for 5 p.m. on April 26 at the Livingston Performing Arts Center at Roosevelt State Park in Morton. The Class of 2025 will include 10 honorees bringing the total membership to 119 since the organization was founded in 2014. This will also mark the 10-year anniversary of the first induction. Rick Cleveland, award-winning and longtime sports columnist, will serve as the keynote speaker.
Tickets will become available on April 1 and are $10 per person. Forest ticket locations will include Community Bank and Bank of Forest. The Morton ticket location is Bank of Commerce and tickets are available in Lake at the Scott County Broadcasting Network office on Highway 80. Tickets can also be purchased at the door.
Frank Edmondson, president and chairman of the selection committee, said this year’s ceremony is significant in marking a milestone in the organization’s operations.
“During last year’s ceremony, we acknowledged the 10-year anniversary of establishing this organization and giving thanks to all of the people and businesses that have made it possible,” Edmondson said. “Now, we will celebrate the 10-year anniversary of our first induction class in 2015. It has been a long and blessed journey and we look forward to future inductions and recognizing the amazing and extraordinary athletic talent that has come through Scott County. We encourage everyone to join us in honoring our newest class and all our members.”
The Class of 2025 includes Charlene Jones Bates of Forest; Kiley Culpepper, Craig and Lee Martin, and Jason Wooten, all representing Lake; the late Bob Tom Johnson, Carolyn Rogers representing Morton, and the late John Lassetter representing the Lillian community; Lewis Bradford, representing Scott Central; and the late Kenneth Thrash, representing Sebastopol.
“This ceremony is about giving honorees another opportunity to shine and for us to say, ‘thank you’ for the contributions they made to athletics and service to our communities,” Edmondson said. “We are also proud of all that we have done in 10 years, bringing attention to our members and others recognized for their efforts. We appreciate the continued support of our sponsors and everyone who has contributed in any way. We could not continue doing this without everyone’s help.”
The public is welcome to submit nominations for future classes. Once a person’s name is submitted and they are declared eligible, he or she remains in the nominations pool for consideration.
“The selection of each class is not an easy task as there are many worthy individuals who are qualified. We appreciate continued submissions that provide eligible nominees to consider,” Edmondson said. “We strongly encourage everyone who thinks they know someone who should be in the Hall of Fame to complete a nomination form whether they think their person has been nominated or not.”
