Bobcats stomp Ethel

The Sebastopol Bobcats regrouped from the previous weeks’ losses to earn their first conference win last Friday night by beating the Ethel Tigers at home. The win ended Sebastopol two-game losing streak and the team looks to build on this win moving forward. The  Bobcats gave the Tigers a hard time from the very beginning and did not let up until after the final whistle blew. The end result was a 42-12 blowout win that leaves the Bobcats with a 2-2 record on the season.

Bobcat’s senior running back Javiers Johnson had a great night. Johnson finished the game with 227 yards rushing and four TDs in leading the team to this convincing win. Sebastopol head coach, Nicky Mooney was very proud of Johnson. “He’s a very good football player, who plays from his heart and I love that,” Mooney said. Sophomore running back, Nosika Melendez, ran for 29 yards and  one TD and receiver Reggie Shepard finished up the night with 45 yards receiving and one TD reception.

Jacob Williams and Nosika Melendez contributed in a big way on the defensive side of the ball. Williams ended the night with nine tackles and Melendez added eight tackles for the Bobcats’ defensive unit.

Coach Mooney said he believes he saw real improvement in his team. “I saw a drastic improvement especially up front (with the offensive line),” Said Mooney. “We nearly didn’t have any missed assignments like we had the week before.”

Sebastopol showed up and they were hungry for a win. They handed the Ethel Tigers a big loss which drops them to 0-3 on the season. The Bobcats now begin preparations for a tough Nanih Wayia Warriors team from Louisville.

The Warriors just came off a blowout win against the Hamilton Lions by a score of 46-0. Sebastopol will not only have to work hard, they will have to play together and be on the same page to defeat the Warriors.

Coach Mooney knows this Friday’s game will be a challenge. “The thing I want to see our guys do is to play as hard as they possibly can and control themselves on the field,” said Mooney. The Bobcats will travel to Louisville to take on Ninah Wayia this Friday night. Kickoff starts at 7 p.m.
