The Scott Central Rebels traveled to Union Last Friday night to take on the Yellowjackets in an important Region 6 district game. The Rebels used big plays all night to take Union down on their home field 27-16.
“Union is always a tough place to play and our guys were up to the challenge,” Rebels head coach Devin Cooper said. “This was a well coached tough team and we went to their field and took care of business.”
Scott Central’s offense was firing on all cylinders when they busted big play after big play to stay in the lead the entire game. The Rebels built a 14-0 lead in the first half, but Union went on a 68-yard scoring drive to end the half with the score at 14-8.
SC extended the lead in the fourth quarter, but were only leading 21-16 when Treyon Wash directed the Rebels offense on a scoring drive that gave the Rebels some breathing room at 27-16.
The Scott Central defense then went to work and held the Yellowjackets scoreless the rest of the quarter for a big road win.
Wash and Lajavis Patrick led the way for the Rebels rushing attack. Wash ended the night with 126 yards on 14 carries and two touchdowns. Patrick was a big play machine during the game and ended the night with 88 yards on 7 carries and one touchdown. Patrick broke multiple runs for over 40 yards with one 69-yard run down to the Union 1-yardline.
With the big win the Rebels move to 7-2 on the season and 2-1 in Region 6. Scott Central is currently in second place in the district trailing only Philadelphia.
The Rebels will have the week off before their Scott County showdown with district rival Lake High School scheduled for Halloween Night, Thursday, October 31.
Cooper said that the week off is beneficial to heal injuries but it can have an effect on the team. “Having the week off can take you out of your routine because you not playing,” he said. “It’s good to have the down time to help with healing some injuries we have, but we have to keep our focus and prepare hard for the rival game with Lake.”
