The number three Scott Central Rebels welcomed the visiting Newton Tigers this past Friday night. Just like previous Friday nights this season, the Rebels played nice until kickoff and then proceeded to beat their guest up and down the football field.
The Rebel offense scored early, often and at times it seemed like at will. When the offense was on the sidelines, which is the only time they are not scoring, the defense was flying around the field harassing the quarterback, ball carriers and causing havoc for opposing offenses. SC went on to win 40-6 which moves them to 7-0 on the season.
When the Rebels got their first possession of the game it was apparent that the offense was tuned up and they moved the ball right down the field. Rebel QB Jackie McDonald called his own number to cap off the drive from 25 yards out. Jabrelynn Vivians carried the ball the last 8 yards for the second score of the quarter. Vivians enjoyed finding the promise land so much that he decided to try it again from 70 yards out and if he was touched at all it was by accident and made it 20-0
In the second quarter McDonald sprinted through the Newton defense for a 46-yard TD run. He was followed up just a few minutes later by Vontae McDonald who banged his way through the Tiger defense from 27 yards out to paydirt that gave the host Rebels a 33-0 lead heading in to halftime.
The Rebels scored their last touchdown in the third to make it 40-0 before calling off the Rebels.
The first test, and only game that maters at this point, is Friday’s matchup with number seven Union (5-2). The Yellowjackets should be counting their blessings that they are getting the high powered Rebels away from Scott Central’s campus because the SC has been doubly devastating to opponent when playing at home this season. This has lined up to be quite the game with the winner being able to make a big statement in class 2A as well as take over the top spot in Region 4-2A.
Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. at Yellowjacket Field.
