The Scott Central Rebels knew coming into last Friday nights game against the undefeated Pelahatchie Chiefs that one of the unbeatens would fall in the end. The Rebels came in with great confidence but made to many mistakes that cost them in the 21-19 loss.
“We just didn’t play well enough to win the game,” Scott Central Head Coach Devine Cooper said. “We made to many mistakes and did not take advantage of our opportunities and Pelahatchie made the most of theirs.”
“It’s that time of year where if you don’t bring your “A” game you are going to get beat,” he added. “We just made too many mistakes against a really good opponent.”
Pelahatchie scored the first 14 points of the game before Scott Central got on the board late in the second quarter. The Rebels would miss the PAT which would dictate the rest of the game for them and come back to haunt them in the end. The teams ended the first half with Pelahatchie leading 14-6.
The Rebels made a strong push in the third quarter but again failed to convert on one of their two PATs which left the score at 21-19 to end the third quarter. Neither team’s offense gained traction in the fourth and the game would end just like the third quarter.
The Rebels will travel to Philadelphia this Friday to take on the Tornadoes with the winner walking away as district champions. Coach Cooper said that Philadelphia is a tough place to play and that his team needs all the fan support they can get.
“We need our fans to travel with us and give us all the support they can,” he said. “We are going to place with a lot of tradition and it’s a tough atmosphere to play in.”
The Rebels have wrapped up a berth in the 2A playoffs but this game will determine the district champion, playoff seedings and first round matchups. The game is set to kickoff at 7:30 p.m. Friday night in Philadelphia.
