Vernard Murrell was born August 15, 1933 to the late Nathaniel and Ophelia Murrell.
As a young man he joined Little Rock M.B. Church. He served in various capacities within the church, state, community, and local organizations, such as past Deacon Board Chairman, Sunday School Teacher, Past President of Layman Movement, Youth Choir Director and Male Chorus Member, Chorister for Ministers, Deacons and Christian Workers Meeting: Third New Hope District, Member of Lake Area Citywide Usher Board, Member of Mt. Olive Singers Convention, a Board of Director of the Pearl River Valley Water Supply District for the Reservoir, Scott County Representative to the Pearl River Industrial Commission appointed by Governor Kirk Fordice from 1993-2012, Board of Directors for Scott County Farm Bureau, Founder and President of Community Group 15, Member of NAACP Scott County Chapter, Past Worshipful Master or the Masons of the Lone Pilgrim Lodge #333, Past Joshua for Lone Pilgrim Court #575 Heroines of Jericho.
He was united in Holy Matrimony to Laura Elizabeth Sibley on September 8, 1956; to this union, eight children were born; Leonard (Kay) Murrell, Myra Murrell Davis, Evelyn Murrell (Arthur) Hampton, Marvin Murrell, Charles (Olivia) Murrell, Stephen (Corina) Murrell, Leslie Murrell, and Terriceda Murrell (Rodney) Crusoe; 16 grandchildren: Leandra Alexis, Chandria (Rob) Lewis, Elizabeth, Treinisha, Anndrew, Jamal (Barbara) Murrell, Laurame (Terrence) Green, Nichole, Brandy, Nathan (Kyisha) Murrell, Nicholas, Alysha, Ray-Vernard, Selena, and Sereda; 10 great-grandchildren: Quentin, Qadaia, Jr., Cataleya, Terencia, Fredrick, Addalynn, Princeston, Nolan, Karyle Jay, and a host of nieces, great nieces, nephews, great-nephews, other relatives and friends. Three others loved as his own: Brenda Shepard, Shirley Wilson, and Minnie Holifield.
