Congratulation to Thomas and Dr. Locord Wilson who participated in the Jackson State University Graduation Services. They were celebrating their 50th year graduation from JSU.
Locordkenic Retroze Douglas Wilson is known professionally as Dr. Locord D. Wilson and personally by family and friends as Locord or Locust. Locord is the biological daughter of Maggie Lean Martin and McKinley Douglas. She was raised by her maternal great aunt Estella McClendon Burks Nichols Wilson in the Midway Community.
Her maternal grandmother is Lottie Bell McClendon Stowers of the Midway Community. Her paternal grandparents are Edgar Douglas of Lone Pilgrim Community and Jesse Weathers Douglas of the Truelight Community. Her maternal great-grandparents are Mallie McClendon and Delia Odom McClendon of the Midway Community.
Dr. Wilson grew up in the Midway Community attending North Scott High and graduating from Scott Central, Class of 1972. She graduated from Jackson State University with a B.S. in Biology, Atlanta University with an M.L.S. in Library Science, and from Walden University with a Ph.D. in Education.
Dr. Wilson is the wife of Thomas Wilson, and the mother of Dr. Tomika Wilson Greer (Jonte) and Tiona Wilson. She is also the grandmother of Jayla Greer and Tamyra Greer.
After graduation from Jackson State University in 1975 she left Mississippi to attend graduate school in Atlanta. Dr. Wilson lived with her family in Toledo, Ohio, and Laurinburg, North Carolina, before returning back to Mississippi in 1998 to work at Jackson State University (JSU). Her tenure at JSU started as a faculty member in the College of Education and Human Development eventually being promoted to Chair and Associate Dean of the College.
After 22 years in the College Dr. Wilson left the College of Education to assume her current position as Dean of Libraries (the main campus H.T. Sampson Library and 4 unit libraries). Dr. Wilson has extensive professional training in educational administration and as an administrator within the Public, Corporate, School, and Academic libraries. Her professional work experience has been in the states of Ohio, North Carolina, and Mississippi.
Thomas Wilson is the son of the late Madie and R. J. Wilson of Terry, Mississippi. He received his high school diploma from Terry High School. His next step was to enlist in the United States Amy, where he did his stint in Vietnam. After serving his time in the army he enrolled in Jackson State University. He received his Bachelor of Science in Chemistry. Upon graduation he enrolled in Atlanta University. He obtained his Master of Science in Chemistry.
Now the long road of success. He applied and was employed until his retirement with LOF Glass Company. He started work in Toledo, Ohio, then within the company, he and his family (wife and two children moved to Laurinburg, North Carolina. In his employment he has worked in many states as a contract employee. In these contracts he has worked in California as well as China.
Upon his retirement he moved back to his wife’s hometown, Forest. He is now a farmer and cattleman.
