Announcements: Morton Chamber of Commerce Career Women’s Luncheon is scheduled for Wednesday, April 27 at 12 Noon, Morton Activities Center, 230 Farris Park Road. Guest speaker is Morton native Alison Rogers Dinkins. You are invited to attend — tickets are $15 each and must be purchased by Tuesday, April 19 (seating is limited) if not purchased in advance a meal will not be guaranteed. Forest BSA Troop #63 will sponsor a Jambalaya Meal Fundraiser at the American Legion building in Forest on Friday, April 15 beginning at 11:30. The “Take Out” meal (a pint of chicken/sausage Jambalaya, cornbread and dessert) is $10. The proceeds are to fund a trip to the Philmont Scout Ranch in New Mexico. Tickets were sold in advance, but walk-ins are encouraged.
Once again the community wishes to express appreciation to the speaker for the April 6 Lenten Luncheon. Rev. Chris Cumbest, pastor of the Wells UMC in Jackson presenting another inspiring message. The last Lenten Lunch Fellowship-2022 will conclude this years season and will be held on Wednesday, April 13 at 12 noon.

Carolyn is a member of the MHV Cluster Club, Annie, Bobbie, Florence and Helen, Morton MHV club and Zettie MHV Ringgold Club.
To: Morton High School teachers who were honored as “Teachers of the Month” for their instructing skills and dedication to their students and staff during the February/March school session. They are: Ms. Tracy Hinton, Ms. Shannon McKee, Ms. Amanda Purvis and Mrs. Kaitlynn Stogner.
To: The East Rankin students named the 2021/2022 STAR Students and their choice for the STAR Teacher. Students are Jonathan Lambreth who chose Mrs. Amy Mood as his most inspiring teacher and Will Price with Mrs. Gerry Britt as his “Star.” In order to qualify for this honor each student was required to have an overall GPA of 93 or above and an ACT score of at least 25.

Travelin’, visitin’ and such: MHV club members representing Cluster, Morton and Ringgold attended the Awards Luncheon recognizing the accomplishments of the clubs/individual members throughout the 2021 Club Year. The theme-Everything is “Pasta-Ble” provided a great meal of traditional Italian food with table decorations featuring collections of wine bottles (some with hand painted enhancements) and unique artificial grapes (belonging to Mrs. Ann Layton, mother of Anita Webb, Scott County Family Life and Consumer Science coordinator). Certificates and Awards were presented following the meal and entertainment was by Mrs. Ester Perry sharing her vocal talent.
Family and friends were spotted enjoying the Senior Piano Recital of Kylie Powell held at Forest Presbyterian Church on Saturday, April 9. This talented young lady represented Scott County as the Distinguished Young Woman while a junior at Forest High School. A student of Irene Martin, she beautifully mastered a selection of sacred, classical, and contemporary numbers. A reception followed giving her audience the opportunity to show their appreciation for her exceptional talent. She will spend time on missions immediately after graduation and then enroll at Brigham Young University and major in Child Development and a minor in Piano Performance.
Sittin’ and thinkin’: As we enter Holy Week with sadness combined with JOY for the passion of our Lord Jesus and his sacrifice for us, we reach out with prayers that each of you have a very Blessed/Happy Easter experience this Year of our Lord 2022.
Morton MHV Club Activities-March
The March general meeting was held in the Morton Public Library on March 2nd with hostesses Jean Harvey and Sarah Huff. The program was a workshop on keeping accurate records of volunteer hours and reporting the information to the county/state appropriate office, emphasizing the importance of this information which goes to the State Legislature for funding to the MSU Extension Service and the many educational programs provided throughout the entire state. Members also attended the Leader Training/County Council meeting and participated in the Cultural Arts Exhibit, voted to provide clothing items to Morton Elementary and feminine hygiene products to Bettye Mae Jack Middle School, supported Morton Public Library, Friends of Morton Library, recycle, support of the Free Give Away at Kalem Community Church, We Care Thrift Store, redeemed Fairway Grocery receipts to the club treasury, a member distributed some more pieced lap throws for assisted living/nursing home residents and shut ins, attended Community Lenten Services and Lunches (a member provided some food items for the meal).
