We enjoyed celebrating at Char’s for the 1967 Tougaloo College Senagers who were born in June. Among those celebrating the birthdays of June babies, Joyce Bartley Taylor and Constance Slaughter-Harvey, were Charles and Deloris Jones, Greta Terry, Carolyn Amerson, Alma Fisher, Walter Davis, Jayne Sargent, Edward Charles Bailey, and the birthday babies. The theme was “Reflecting on the Positives and Blessings during the Pandemic.”
Kudos to retired MHSP R. O. Williams for sharing his warm hospitality with retired MO Trooper Charles Jackson and friends. The hospitality was accompanied by delicious southern cooking at Old Country Kitchen where Mr. and Mrs. Roy Dixon shared their special recipes.
We enjoyed visiting with former Slaughter Scout Vincent Harris who was home visiting his family. It was good hearing from former Slaughter Scout, Sophia Gray, who recently retired from the Department of Justice in Dallas, TX.
We enjoyed Mt. Moriah M. B. Church Sunday Services which were held in the church parking lot. Pastor Ralph James delivered the message concerning holding on and keeping the faith during this time of pandemic. He reminded those in attendance to remain steadfast and prepare to return to in-person sanctuary services. Mrs. Kathern Qualls, First Lady James and son, Joseph, shared beautiful music.
Parishioners at St. Michael Catholic Church celebrated Sunday Mass and welcomed Father Alexis back for his usual inspirational homily. He reminded us that God is a lover and giver of life; and we need to contemplate the love and gifts of God. There is too much violence, death, and sickness in our society. We need to pray to the Holy Spirit and ask for healing and the gift of faith. We should renew our faith and ask for healing deliberation of sin which is the most terrible sickness.
Following Mass, we enjoyed visiting with Army Major Andrew Moncrief and son Benjamin. He was home visiting his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Charles (Violet) Moncrief, after spending two years of service in Korea. Major Moncrief attended St Michael prior to joining the Army. We’re proud of Major Moncrief and wish him well on his path to becoming a Major.
Congratulations to Froylan Texaco, Aisue Maldorado, Natalia Diego, and Jazmin Ascensio who were confirmed Wednesday during Confirmation Service at St. Michael. Bishop Joseph Kopacz presided during the Confirmation and was assisted by Father Alexis. It is always good to visit with the Bishop who joined us at the Confirmation Reception.
Lynch Chapel U. M. Church Pastor Shirley Wilder and congregation continued Sunday in-person services. Her message theme was “Keep Watch” and her Scripture was Matthew 26:41. Prior to sharing her message, she requested prayer for Mrs. Emma Merle Thomas Reed. Happy Birthday greetings to Pastor Wilder on her special June 30th celebration.
Little Rock M. B. Church service was in-person and via YouTube. Devotion was done by Deacon Jimmy Robinson. Pastor Sheldon Thomas’ theme was “Looking to Where My Help Comes From,” and Scripture references were Psalm 121, Hebrews 10:35-36, and Matthew 26:36-42. Sometimes our confidence comes under pressure but we must hold on to our confidence. In Matthew 26, Jesus was in the garden of Gethsemane praying and three times, he comes back finding his disciples asleep. We find that we have an active devil, a praying Christ, and a sleeping church. We must continue to look to the hills from whence comes our help. This leads us to “Godfidence.” That’s simply trusting God when we can’t trace God!!
