For many, it was their first pageant. It takes a lot of courage to step out on a stage by yourself. Congratulations to all the contestants. Every one of them showed great poise and courage.
Congratulations also to our Archery Team on their excellent performance at the state competition. They placed second in the 1A Division State Championship. Coach Jonathan Jacobs posted the following comments after the competition,
“132 hours: 53 practices: 80,000 arrows shot, hundreds of arrows that need to be fixed and even a few setbacks later we are 2nd place in the state!!! Words cannot and will not express the joy that I received today watching my team leave it all on the line.
“I have spoken for weeks about mental toughness. I have talked about ways to recognize and avoid making mental mistakes. I can honestly tell you that during a time when they should have made plenty of mental mistakes they did not focus on that, they focused on the process of shooting the arrow. The team that I saw today wasn’t the same as the one I witnessed two weeks ago at South State. We shot our best that day, but today that score would have put us in 9th place. And then today, against all odds, they shot almost 100 points better than they did at South State.
“Practice hasn’t been about what the other schools could do, but what we could do. I told my kids to just let the other schools know that we were there. And they did.
“Last year: 3rd, this year: 2nd, and next year....... Only time will tell. It’s a great day to coach the SC Archery team. Success belongs only to those who work harder than others.”
