Our prayers are with the family of the late Mr. Anderson Robinson, World War II veteran, King Lumber employee and more recently, a friendly Walmart greeter. Mr. Robinson was a walking history book and shared his treasures with Legacy’s historical program. He transitioned April 24th. Holifield Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. He leaves a great legacy and our prayers are with his family.
Memorial services were held for Sherman Hill High School graduate, Mrs. Mary Lois “Mae Lois” Lockhart, Saturday, April 27th at Holifield Funeral Home Chapel. Elder Vernada Pinkston officiated and delivered the eulogy. Mrs. Kathy Loper-Pinkston was the mistress of ceremony. Other program participants included Mrs. Kendall Morgan, Revs. James Pinkston and Willie Ray Pinkston, Mesdames Georgina Macon, Barbara Pinkston and Mary Shun Morgan. Please continue to remember her family in your prayers.
We are sorry to learn of the death of Ms. Della Rose Posey, daughter of the late former instructor, Mrs. Lillie McMorris. Please keep her family in your prayers.
Our prayers are with the family of the late United States District (Third District) Court Judge Damon Keith who died at his home in Detroit. Judge Keith was 96 years and will be missed. He was an extraordinary jurist and left a great legacy.

We enjoyed the Annual Littie Clark-Marshall Scholarship Program held Sunday at the Greater Deliverance COGIC. Forest native and Tuskegee educated, Dr. Lorraine Dozier, was the guest speaker. She challenged youth and reminded them to know their possibilities. She was introduced by Aurvanette Campbell. Kim Watts was the mistress of order, and other program participants included Chelsea and Jerry Rogers, Josselynn Jones, Arianna Hunter, 2018 Scholarship recipient Dannika Johnson, Joetta Sanders, Jesandria Bland, and Phylis Campbell.
Representing Alderman James Clark, Vincent Solomon expressed appreciation to supporters of his grandmother’s Scholarship program. Scholarship winners were Scott Central’s Joanna Sanders ($300), Forest High School’s Jordan Stewart ($400), Forest High School’s India Campbell ($500) and Forest High School’s LaQuincy Edmonds ($600.00). Bishop Daniel Littleton provided closing remarks and congratulated scholarship winners.
Congratulations to Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Jackson (nee Geraldine Johnson) who exchanged marriage vows Saturday, April 27th at Greater Corinth M. B. Church in Newton. It was a beautiful wedding and the bride beamed with pride and beauty while the groom also showed his love and pride. The reception, held at Green Tree in Lake, was beautifully decorated. Congratulations and best wishes to the newlyweds!
Congratulations to Election Commissioner “Coach” Roy Pinkston who was honored during the Scott County Athletic Hall of Fame Saturday at Roosevelt State Park. We join Coach’s family in applauding his honor. It was good seeing Legacy supporter Todd Pinkston and other members of his family. Congratulations are also expressed to other members who were inducted and best wishes to them.
Congratulations to Carolyn Knowles, Mary Edith Ware, and Mack Junior Burkes as they prepare to receive their Golden Class honors from Alcorn State University. The event is scheduled for this weekend and promises to be exciting and special.
Congratulations to Nicholas Odom, son of Mr. and Mrs. Fletcher (Betty) Odom, and Forest High School graduate, on his graduation, with honors, from Mississippi State University’s College of Business on May 2nd at Humphrey Coliseum in Starkville. Please check with your counsellors or graduation coaches this week to learn of the five (5) $1,000 scholarships available to qualified graduating seniors. The deadline for completing applications, which are available from the counsellor’s office, is Wednesday, May 8th.
Interviews will be scheduled once the applications are completed. The scholarships are named in memory and honor of Alderman W. L. Slaughter, Mrs. Olivia Kelley Slaughter, Mr. Theaodis Gary, Sr., and Mrs. Aura Neely-Gary.
