Our community is saddened with the death of Mrs. Dorothy Mae Gray Jones, community and church matriarch, who transitioned Thursday, March 28, at Specialty Hospital in Jackson. Memorial services are scheduled for Sunday, April 7th at 2:00 at her home church of Lynch Chapel U. M. Our prayers are with her family, especially her children, Joe, Jr. (Vivian), Judith (Larry) Hinton, and Dorothy Faye Jones. Mapp Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
We are sorry to learn of the transition of Forest native, Ms. Barbara Jones, who resided in Las Vegas since her graduation from Alcorn State University in 1963. Ms. Jones, a 1959 graduate of Hawkins High School, was the daughter of the late Mr. Wilbert Jones and Mrs. Maude Jones. Please keep her family in your prayers including her siblings, J. C., Shirley, J. C. and Wilbert, Jr.
Our prayers are with the family of Mr. Johnny Wilson, who was killed in an automobile in Bay Spring Saturday morning. Please keep his family, especially his mother, Mrs. Betty Wilson, in your prayers. Evans Memorial Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
A beautiful memorial service was held for Mr. George Parker Saturday, March 30th at St. Joseph M. B. Church in Mobile. Our prayers are with his wife, Jessie Mae Parker, children and siblings, Rita Parker, Beatrice Washington and Herman Parker.

It was our pleasure to attend the St. Peter M. B. Church Annual Spring Revival where Rev. Paul Ford, Morton High School and East Central Community College graduate, delivered the nightly message Monday, March 25th through Wednesday, March 27th. He was introduced by St. Peter’s Pastor, Rev. Eddie Adams. Other program participants were Mrs. Willie Ealy, Ms. Lawanda Ealy, and Revs. McDougal and Lafayette Ward.
Rev. Ford’s message addressed the question, “Are you ready to face your giant?” Deacon Albert Moore, who has been a deacon for 65 years, was present each night and he was accompanied by his wife, Mrs. Lucy Moore and niece, Ms. Nettie Ware. We enjoyed worshipping with Deacon Moore and other members of the St. Peter M. B. Church.
We enjoyed worship services during the Concord M. B. Church Annual Spring Revival held March 25th-March 27th. Rev. J. R. Jennings from Shiloh M. B. Church in Newton shared the nightly message. He is the moderator of the Third New Hope District. Pastor Henry Patrick thanks all who attended.
Happy birthday to Mrs. Florence (Flo) Chambers who celebrated her 84th birthday Saturday by sharing special moments with her family and friends, including her pooch Heidi.
Congratulations to Ronnie Fortinberry who was honored with a Retirement Reception Friday, March 29th at the Bank of Forest Board Room. He and his wife, Janice, greeted and thanked all those attending the Reception. It was good seeing their son, Sloan, who volunteered as a tutor at the Slaughter Library while he was in high school. We wish Ronnie our very best as he enters retirement life.
Congratulations to Forest native Coach Greg Carter. He and his 6-A Basketball Team were honored at the MS State Capitol on Wednesday, March 27th. We are proud of Coach Carter.
We enjoyed visiting with Sgt. E5 Marico Jones who surprised his mother, Bettye Jones, when he knocked on her door early Friday morning. He is home from Syria and intends to rest and rejuvenate following his stint in the U. S. Army.

The next meeting of Health Is Wealth and Historical Society will be held Thursday, April 11th at the Slaughter Library. The joint meeting is scheduled for noon.
Due to the forecast of thunder storms and bad weather, Legacy’s Annual Yard/Sidewalk Sale has been rescheduled from April 5 and 6 to Friday and Saturday, April 12th and 13th. It will be held at the Slaughter Block on Highway 80.
