Low TraditionsBy PASTOR LUIS CARTAGENA,
Nowadays, a great part of humanity has the possibility to find out in seconds about what happens in almost every corner of the planet. That is why we know that it is tradition in the new generations for more than 50 years to organize, spontaneously, to demand changes in governments in their countries of origin. Thus, under the name of peace and social justice, many congregate in large parades to protest. Generally such protests end in violence and destruction of public and private assets. This tradition in youth, however, lacks respect for others who do not think like them, and show no Christian values and morals in their communications. Just read their communications in the digital media and their signs with which they parade. The most frequent is that after their marches, only debris from the damage is left behind. Of course, there are activist politicians who plan and capitalize on their ideas.
Older adults are aware of the current power of Social Networks because part of society is activated positively or negatively against any reality. The truths and lies have consequences in the elections, and it is only enough to watch the news on television to realize how many try to misrepresent the adversaries. Things are offered that are unlikely to be fulfilled once the respective candidates have been chosen.
I come from a country that had traditions of democracy until someone abused power and the military had to assume the government that eventually became a long dictatorship. Today after more than thirty years back to democracy, youth has suddenly mobilized through their cell phones and more than a week ago they invaded the streets protesting about injustices that are true. The problem is that, together with the young people, the lumpen also came out to steal, burn, loot and destroy public and private assets.
Although there are many valid reasons to protest, nothing gives a right to violence and the lack of respect for public institutions that are happening right now. It is very evident that Christ is very ignored in these new generations and that also in the political parties there is no talk about it. The consequence has been divisions and scandals in different churches in Chile.
We in the USA should also be very careful when choosing leaders. We go to the bible to know what Jesus said. “You leave the commandemnt of God and hold to the tradition of men.” “And He called the people to Him again and said to them, “Hear Me, all of you, and understand: There is nothing outside a person that by going into him can defile him, but the things that come out of a person are what defile him.” Mark 7: 8 and 14-16 ESV.
There are “traditional sins” that should not be accepted by any Christian. And He said, ‘What comes out of a person is what defiles him. For from within, out of the heart of man, come evil thoughts, sexual immorality, theft, murder, adultery, coveting, wickedness, deceit, sensuality, envy, slander, pride, foolishness. All these evil things come from within, and they defile a person.” Mark 7: 20-23 ESV
God does not accept street violence. God has given us understanding and that through Jesus Christ, we are given the Holy Spirit who will lead us along the path of peace, truth and real justice.
May God bless you.
