The MessageBy PASTOR BILL MYERS,
It’s time to get our feet wet! Are you ready?
Most of us have read this scripture and wrongly judged Peter for sinking in the water. Haven’t we all been guilty of doubting God at times? I admire Peter for having the faith in Jesus and the courage to step out of the boat and walk on water toward Him! We have to remember that the other disciples stayed in the boat where it seemed safe, but Peter in his boldness and hunger for more of God, stepped out of the boat with his eyes on Jesus.
This scripture/story is an encouraging lesson. Many times as we look to Jesus for a miracle, He’ll ask us to step out of our boat (comfort-zone) in faith, believe in Him and walk on water (the impossible). Friends, what storm or raging sea is facing you today? Is it financial, relationship problems, dead-end job/career, health issues, etc.? No matter what is facing you with its big waves crashing all around your boat, look into the midst of your storm and you’ll see Jesus! No, He won’t be on the banks of the sea waiting for you to come ashore, He’ll be right there with you telling you to not be afraid!
In love and encouragement, you’ll hear Him gently saying, “Come, step out of your boat in faith, believe and follow me.” As you begin to walk in faith, believing, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me,” (Philippians 4:13) you’ll be attacked by the devil on all sides trying to get you to take your eyes off Jesus and focus on your problems instead. Satan loves discouragement. Please don’t give in to it! Be reassured, Jesus will not leave you! If you begin sinking, His gentle hand will reach for you and save you from drowning in your problems. What a loving Savior!
God has said, “Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.” So we say with confidence, “The Lord is my helper; I will not be afraid. What can man do to me?” (Hebrews 13: 5-6)
Do you hear God’s voice calling you to believe in His Word for your miracle? Today, trust in Jesus who will save you from the raging storm! Don’t give up and remember He loves you!
It’s time to step out of your boat, get your feet wet, and walk in faith toward Jesus! God isn’t looking for perfection. He’s looking for willingness and faithfulness!
