Who Forgot God?
We live in a predominantly Christian society that paradoxically has as its most important goal the possession of money to satisfy a marked addiction for material goods. That’s why so many work hard and walk economically over the unsteady tightrope of credit cards. There are many who have achieved professional titles and are well paid, while others have been blessed with the ability to do good business, all this is magnificent but the sad thing is the tendency, of many who are economically successful, to forget God and His commandments.
There is no sin in enjoying what much sacrifice has cost in working, but if our pleasures are a response to the sinful temptations of the world, then we are in trouble. Many will remember God when there are problems of health or bad business, but that is very unfair on our part. When Jesus was present many Jews listened Him; “The Pharisees, who were lovers of money, heard all these things, and they ridiculed Him. And He said to them, “you are those who justify yourselves before men, but God knows your hearts. For what is exalted among men is an abomination in the sight of God.” Luke 16:14-15 ESV. As we see worshiping money is something that comes from many centuries ago, the problem is the existence of believers in that group.
Money is a powerful and deceiving master unless the Christian principles indicated in the Scriptures are clear, in addition to the testimony that Jesus Christ gave us with His life among men. Although usually the possession of a lot of money seems to give a lot of power and control over society, the truth is that often it can not be given when a bad decision can lead to a bankruptcy, or a severe incurable and terminal illness ensues.
I believe that God is horrified when He observes His people extolling the worldliness of economic power since He well knows that a weak faith destroys the communion that there must be. The estrangement of their children produces breaks in the families that populate the Kingdom of God. This spiritual instability makes necessary the wisdom that only God can give to administer the resources gained and with which we have been blessed. In all our financial activities, honesty and transparency are necessary and that includes our contribution to the church. All the missions need our contribution to carry out what it is required by Christ. When someone is not clear or transparent it implies that they are lying not only to the Church but to the Lord. “One who is faithful in a very little is also dishonest in much. If then you have not been faithful in the unrighteous wealth, who will entrust to you the true riches?” Luke 16:10-11 ESV
When we use resources to help others or those who need it most, we present God with a good testimony, and the benefits will see eternity. However, the great riches of the Kingdom of God do not depend on our economy, we should not dismiss God by forgetting Him and worrying about inconsequential matters, let alone trying to serve money because the most important service is to God.
May God bless you.
