Jesus is the answer
Do others see Jesus in the way I live? Is my life a true Christian testimony to the lost?
“Beyond all these things put on love, which is the perfect bond of unity.” (Colossians 3:14)
If God called us to share Jesus Christ with those around us, but wouldn’t allow us to say anything, about Him, how strong would our testimony for Him be? Just the way we were acting and reacting to situations. We’ve all heard the old saying, “actions speak louder than words.” I wonder how strong our testimony would be if we couldn’t use words?
Love (God) can be given to others without words. It’s an action word. Sometimes people get weary hearing useless words that don’t mean anything; but when they see us “walk the walk” in love, their hearts will listen. For example if we speak about loving others to one group, then turn around and purposely be mean to others, our testimony isn’t very effective.
I remember the old church hymn, “Let others see Jesus in you.” A powerful message!
God is calling us to love others with the love of Jesus. Many years ago I served on a church staff. I recall several times the church ministered to the community through “random acts of kindness” where members of the church would pump gas for the elderly at a local station or help take groceries to someone’s car all in the name of love (God).
Before Jesus began His ministry, He was a carpenter. Even though the Bible doesn’t say much about His early life, I can picture Him being kind, helpful, and loving to others with His carpentry work. Friends, we should live our lives the same.
“and walk in love, just as Christ also loves you and gave Himself up for us, an offering and a sacrifice to God as a fragrant aroma.” (Ephesians 5:2)
When speaking to Christian groups, I have sometimes used the illustration of the movie “Jekyll and Hyde,” where the doctor had two personalities. I use this to encourage believers to live the Christian life not just in words but in actions also. Being loving and kind at church on Sundays, then “mean as a snake” Monday through Saturday isn’t much of a Christian testimony to the lost. Spending time in God’s Word, prayer, and thankfulness will help us be consistent and not on a spiritual roller coaster (up and down).
Let’s ask God to change our hearts and attitude and mold us to be like Jesus. When we begin walking in love and kindness toward others, whether it’s in the check-out line at Wal-Mart or the local car dealership, we will truly be a witness for Jesus by the way we treat others with love.
“Beloved, let us love one another for love is of God..” (1 John 4: 7)
Prayer changes everything! Yes, prayer will change us!
Jesus is the answer! Jesus is your answer!
