Called to Serve
As a child I grew up seeing my parents willing to serve others. That altruism is rooted in what Christ teaches us when we become part of God’s family, unfortunately not everyone understands or understands the call to serve. The raids that many undocumented suffered gave me the opportunity to see the degree of understanding that our rural community has about the meaning of the verb to serve. And as is natural in humanity everything is variable. However, each Christian should be recognized by others who are not, for the service he provides to others on a level of complete equality and without prejudice of any kind.
When there is an excess of individualism and selfishness in society it becomes very difficult for the majority, to put aside political and racial prejudices. Many have not realized that humility and love were strong in Jesus Christ, and that His compassion is an example that always has to be present in us. That includes a pastors’s mission. We all are servants of God and we are all in other words, ministers. “As each has recived a gift, use to serve one another, as good stewards of God’s varied grace.” 1 Peter 4:10 ESV
These gifts have their natural limits in the capacity of each person, but all the disciples of Christ must be guided by the example of the Lord according to the understanding that God has given to each one.We must serve in any situation without worrying about the cost or the burden. “Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.” Matthew 11:29-30 ESV. The servant is always absorbed in Jesus, in the same way as He was in His Father. If there is pain in the service, pain leads to glory, and we as children of the Father depend on Him. The Father will guide us if we allow it, always according to His will.
When we walk with the Father many times we will find mysteries of His divine nature. The wonderful thing is that with Him at our side all peace, love and comfort are always possible. The cross must be part of us as a symbol of sacrifice and anguish that were overcome by Jesus Christ.
Jesus places us in a position that opposes a heavy burden of Jewish legalism and very typical of the political world around us. Jesus Christ places us in a position of freedom, and that demands loyalty to Him. We are free servants of a group of human beings who in their great majority deserve to be considered in a forgotten and distant amnesty. When we serve we do it in the name of Jesus Christ for whom we have been called. We follow and serve you always confident, cheerful and with love for those in need.
May God bless you.
