Black History Month continues
Midway M. B. Church will be celebrating Black History this month. For the entire month we will wear our African American attire or any attire our ancestors wore. On the 4th Sunday which is February 23rd during regular service we will celebrate Black History with a program. Patty Odom is in charge of the program. Attorney Constance Slaughter will be the guest speaker. She has acquired many “firsts.”
A traditional soul food menu will be served. All items on the menu will be homemade. No commercial prepared foods will be served. Each person is asked to bring two dishes.
Last week we recognized those locals who finished school with terminal degrees, Specialists Degrees and Masters Degrees from Midway Vocational High School, North Scott High School and Scott Central Attendance Center. NAACP will sponsor a Singing Program at Midway Freewill Baptist Church on February 22 at 3;00.
There will be a Benefit given in honor of our past First Lady, Sister Vernita Whittington on February 29th at 6:00 p.m. at Jones Chapel M. B. Church. Rev. Kelly Miller is the pastor. .
Sympathy to the Beamon and Odom family in the passing of Curtis “Curt” Beemon. (Not a typo his legal name is spelled Beemon, the rest of his family name is spelled Beamon) His grandparents were Early and Ellen Beamon. His services were last Monday. His services and interment were held in Milwaukee.
Learning with a Snack is a tutoring program at the Midway Freewill Baptist Church. After School Feeding and Tutoring Program for ages 5 – 15, every Monday and Wednesday of each week from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. All students are welcome.
