Announcements: The Scott County Mississippi Homemaker Volunteers (MHV) Club members and MSU/Scott County Extension Service wish to express appreciation to the sponsors who made the Annual 2018 Awards Luncheon possible with donations providing theme decorations and monetary awards to clubs and members in appreciation for their volunteer services throughout the year. The Scott County MHV will have Leader Training/ Council meeting on Tuesday, January 30 at 1:30 p.m. in the MSU/Scott County Extension Service facility, 230 South Davis Street, Forest. A lunch time fundraiser featuring Homemade Soups and Dessert will be offered on Thursday, February 1 at Excel Learning Center, 383 South Fourth Street, Morton from 10:30 a. m.-12:30 p.m. Proceeds from the Eat In/Take Out meal benefit Excel’s educational programs.
Excel will host an “Improving Your Mending Skills” class instructed by Marie Harman and Shelly Bump on Tuesday, February 6 from 6-7 p.m. The cost is $5. and will permit participants to bring two or three items that need mending with the use of needle and thread or sometimes sewing machine repairs. Knox Ross, a partner in the firm of Ross & Betts PLLC and former Mayor of Pelahatchie will be the feature speaker for the Annual Morton Chamber of Commerce Banquet on Thursday, January 25 to be held at Morton Activities Center, Farris Park beginning at 7 p.m.. The event will recognize Retiring Directors and Newly Elected Chamber Officers. There will be Special Awards for Community Service, 2017.

Travelin’, visitin’ and such: The ERA Robotics Team visited Excel Learning Center After School Tutoring Classes last week to share their accomplishments while competing in the First Tech Challenge in Mississippi which focuses on engaging students in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM).
The event, held at the Muse Center at Hinds Community College, resulted in ERA Robotics Team II winning the “THINK AWARD” for best reflecting the journey taken as they experienced the engineering design process demonstrated in the engineering notebook and the “Finalist Alliance” Award. Era Robotics Team I won 3rd Place Inspire Award and the ERA Robotics Team II won 2nd Place Inspire Award, with all awards making the teams eligible to compete at the state competition, Mississippi First Tech Challenge on the campus of University of Mississippi.
Team members are: Taylor Irby, Cole Jones, Knox Ross, Blaine Martin, Andrew Harrell, Maddie Morgan, Dana Warkins, Tyler Betts, Jacob Gardner, Ethan Crain, Thad Webb, Andrew Stewart, Emily Myers, Jackson Harper, Garrett, Will Blossom, Elijah Rowell, Brennan Rials and Brandyn Luke.
