Announcements: Excel Community and Learning Center, 383 South Fourth Street, Morton, will offer ESL (learning English as your second language) Basic Level I and Basic Level II.  The 15 week course is scheduled for Mondays and Thursdays beginning on August 12.  Cost for each course is $45.  To acquire more information and details on times or to pre-register call 601-732-1800.

A Bee Happy-4-H Honeybee Day Camp will be presented on Friday, August 2 with participants meeting at Kennedy Springs Church, 2021 MS 440, Magee, MS.  A $10. registration fee to cover expenses and workbook is required.  Pre-registration is due by July 25.  For more information and to receive a registration form contact Anita Webb @ 601-469-4241.

Congratulations to: Those winners in the Boat Parade held during the wonderful Fourth of July Celebration on Shadow Lake at Roosevelt State Park prior to the Fireworks Display:  First Place-Freedom Floaters, Morton; Second Place-D’Macks Party Barge (in honor/memory of Douglas Hoard, Raleigh; Third Place-USS Mississippi, Morton and Honorable Mention-Red White & Busby, Morton.

To: Team members of the Mississippi 4-H Shooting Team on placing in the Top 10 during the 4-H Shooting Sports National championships.  Zachary Irby, son of Paul and Linda Irby is a member of the team along with three other Mississippians who participated in the competition.

To: Tori Bowie, graduate of Pisgah High School on being one of three named to the C-USA Inaugural Hall of Fame Class, representing University of Southern Mississippi. Her sport was Track and Field (2009-12), Also honored-USM Head Coach, Jeff Bowers, Football (1995-2007) and Courteny Blades, Softball (1999-2000).

To: Jake Gautreau, Recruiter-MSU and working with infielders and hitters, was named D1 National Assistant Coach of the Year.

Prayers and concern for: Jerry Jones, Sonny Williams and continued concern for those impacted by Hurricane/Tropical Storm Barry.

Sympathy to the families of: Douglas Moore, James “Stinker” Allen, Inez Thornton Munn, Patricia “Trish” Townsend Williams and Alene Lewis Lockert Creel.

Travelin’, visitin’ and such:  The church family and friends at Branch Baptist Church held a dedication service, during the morning service for the recent addition of the new steeple in memory of Marion and Kate Denson Peagler.  This edifice was funded by the surviving family members of the Peaglers in attendance:  Daughter, Katie Peagler Measells; Grand Children, Clark Measells and wife Nenette of Jefferson City Tennessee; Becky Measells Moss and husband Jeff of Fannin and Great Grand Children, Kathryn and Jarrett Moss.  This was an occasion giving much pleasure to the family and friends.
