Our community is saddened by the death of retired Forest Head Start employee, Ms. Shirley Ann Harper, who transitioned December 18th. Memorial services are scheduled for Saturday, December 29th at 11:00 at the Reach One on One Center. Repast will follow at the Forest Services Center where Ms. Harper spent many years providing services to our children and community. Please remember her family in your prayers.

Christmas came early to 20 Hawkins Middle School students who were nominated by their teachers to receive Christmas bicycles. What a wonderful gift for each of the students who were presented these gifts by Principal Marcus Holbert and staff. Thanks Principal Holbert and staff for spreading the Christmas joy!
Christmas cheer, great hospitality, delicious food and special gifts were shared with support staff for Scott County Bar Association members during their Annual Christmas Luncheon Gala Monday, December 17th at the Forest Community Center. Special guests were the late Kim Giles Miles’ family, namely her daughters, Markii Posey and Megan Wolf, and sister Faye Johnston. The Bar president presented a Resolution of Commendation for the life and contributions of Mrs. Miles who provided support for the preparation and maintenance of the official minutes. Former Court Administrator Carolyn Cooper was honored for her 29 years of service. Retiring Chancellor David Clark, Bingo Announcer, was honored for his service and received an Appreciation Clock from the Association. Bar Angels present and being pampered were Amber Stevens, Renee Crimm, Yolanda Lovett, Michele Reeves, Judy Rhinewalt, Bobbie Dickens, Andrew Crudup, Tanya Tanner, Dorothy Pinkston, Amanda Taylor, Renee Washington, Sarah Meredith, and Staci Shoemaker. Thanks to volunteers and to Mrs. Quita Morrow and family for the delicious meal.

Kudos to Legacy Mentor and retired teacher, Bonnie Floyd Stowers who continues to bring Christmas cheer to convalescent/ nursing home residents. In her ministry, she delivers goodies, gifts and love. Scott County Democratic Executive Committee members celebrated the Advent and Christmas seasons Monday night at Penn’s Steakhouse. Public Service Commissioner Deputy Ryan Brown was in attendance and brought greetings from his office. The Scott County Youth Court staff relaxed for an hour and celebrated the spirit of Christmas Tuesday, December 18th where Court Administrator Lisa Addy coordinated the festivities. The staff of Children’s Protective Services joined Youth Court staff in celebrating the Yuletide season. Merry Christmas!
The Annual JSU Scott County Alumni Chapter Christmas Party, held Saturday, December 15th, was enjoyed by the party-goers. There was plenty of fun, food and wonderful fellowship. Chapter President Maxine Odom Gilmore welcomed members and guests and invited them to relax and have fun. Alderwoman Cynthia Melton served as one of Santa’s elves in awarding door prizes which were provided by Chapter members. Other members present and providing the annual fundraiser were Mr. and Mrs. John (Rose) Anderson, Mesdames Ester Perry, Carolyn Macon, and Lisa Darby, Chineta Perry, Steve Denham and Clell McCurdy. Entertainment was provided by BoZo Burkes. The membership is grateful for community support and is looking forward to this annual event in 2019. The holiday (out of school) season was kicked off with the Legacy Annual Christmas Pizza party Friday, December 21st at Hawkins Middle School. More than 85 boys and girls enjoyed the Pizza-Bingo party and expressed appreciation for their blessings. They also shared their memories of their favorite Christmas. In addition to the Christmas party fun, Hawkins mentees enjoyed the program on “Second Hand Smoke” which was presented by Ms. Sherron Day of the Tobacco Free Coalition.
Concord M. B. Church members enjoyed their Musical Christmas Program Sunday December 16th where young members presented their annual performances including speeches, praise dancing, and beautiful songs.
