Blessed on Mother’s Day
I hope all Mothers were as blessed as I was on Mother’s Day! I had 21 family members come join me for lunch. I have gotten out of the habit of cooking for a “bunch” but managed to pull it off. Some of my family surprised me that morning when they arrived at EBC for Mother’s Day worship service. Family is so precious! “But consider this, you (yes, you) are precious to your Heavenly Father! It’s true! You are so precious that He sacrificed His very, beloved and precious Son so you could belong to His forever family!”
Our community was saddened this week to learn of a accident and death of Mike Rigdon. He was in Indiana when a wreck occurred, taking his life. Services are set for Tuesday of next week. Sincere sympathy to his loving family and friends. Our community has connection to the families of Chris Anderson, Jerry Thrash and Betty Patrick who passed away this past week and I extend our condolences to all!

This weekend caused me to do a little “walking back down memory lane” comparing motherhood then and now. Then — mother’s cooked most all food the family ate. Food came from a family garden. This meant children help pick vegetables and help shell them too. One of my girls wanted to know why we didn’t grow butter beans with purple shells like string beans or peas? She said if we did that it would be easier to know what to pick or not pick. Now — if vegetables are part of the meals, they come already shelled and most times ready to cook. Then — Mothers made most her and her daughter’s clothes. Now — clothes are purchased ready made, material and patterns are too costly and who could possibly please a teenager’s trendy styles. I could go on and on about differences. I saw an interesting note to a Mom: “Mum, I’m sorry for all the dumb stuff I did when I was young! If it helps, you only know about half of it!!!”
Twenty nine years ago, having triplets was a very rare event! Then came the Culpepper triplets. It is hard for me to believe their age. For an up-date to those that followed news of “where are they now” Becky and husband Robbie Faulk live in Mathiston, Ms. Becky is employed by MSU in their Dean of Student’s with the Office of Parent and Family Services and they are expecting their first child in November; Brooke and husband Derik Crenshaw live in Philadelphia, Ms. Brooke has just completed her School Counselor Intern as Ed. S. In School Counseling with the Philadelphia Schools; Benjamin and wife Katie Culpepper live in Ridgeland, Ms and he is employed at Ms. State Department of Health as a Health Physicist.
They are having a “Poor People’s March” in several states for the next 40 days, including Jackson, Ms. As Senior Adults are caught up in the high cost of prescription drugs, we might need to join this group. I had one that my cost, after insurance, was $347. But, when I said no my physician called in a substitute for $155, which was still too high. Second time, I went to pick up another prescription and it was $145. I said no again and new substitute was $4. I applauded President Trump when he announced he was going to fight the high cost of drugs for us! He does some things that I frown on, but in my mind, he has done many good things. Despite the social media, which by the way, “leaked” that he uses prescription hair restorer! My question is, who cares?
This past week I had an unusual phone call request that I thought you would like me to share. Ann Warren called asking if I could help her find a phone number for a friend that wanted to locate her former school classmate. This friend, Virginia Gilmer, who is 94 years young, wanted to check on her former classmate, Evelyn Waltman. After calling several family members who weren’t home then, I talked to Evelyn’s son, Rickey, and got that problem solved. These two women are certainly blessed to have each other! My Mother said one of the worst things about old age was that most of her friends had died.
Have a blessed week as we share the joy of a Royal wedding on Saturday. I, for one, had rather this be in the news than all the bad things that is going on in the world.
