George H.W. Bush dies at age 94
“His career in politics spanned more than three decades and culminated as the 41st President of the United States. His foreign policies trumped to high popularity at the end of the ‘Cold War’. His life is a testament to the notion that Public Service is a noble and joyous calling. He has gone on to join his wife Barbara and their second child, 3 year old daughter, Robin Bush, who died from leukemia.” My condolences to his family and all that loved him!
First Lady, Melania Trump, has received a great amount of criticism about the red Christmas trees she has placed in the White House. They failed to look up the meaning of the trees and I am sure the history behind them will never be told by those who belittled her. “It happens that Red trees are significant to the early Christian Church. In Eastern Europe, the church would dye the trees red to symbolize the blood of Jesus and His resurrection.”

You remember the song about Santa got run over by a reindeer? Well I had a real close experience this past week that is kinda similar. Last week on the morning of the frost, that looked like snow had fallen, I headed out to Jackson for an appointment. I got up my driveway to Ringgold Road and waited for two vehicles to clear my path. Just as I almost pulled out a bicycle, a man dressed in all black, came driving by. I was fortunate and he was too, I stopped and he didn’t hit me! Who ever would have imagined a bicycle would be peddling along on a cold morning?
I always say a prayer when I leave home for God to make my way safe both ways as I travel. This day I felt like an angel was riding with me!
When I went to Wal-mart on Saturday I felt like I was in Florida. With almost 80 degree weather, quite a few people were dressed in shorts, tank tops and flip-flops. An old saying of a “hot winter makes for a fat graveyard” is hopefully just a saying that does not come true. Nowadays we are told you can’t catch cold because of the weather. You catch it from coming in contact with someone who has a virus!
The count down for Christmas is happening now. Seems like the time flies by faster this time of year. Children have so much all year in this present day, they can’t be as anxious as in times past. I remember wrapping gifts and putting them under the tree early, not knowing that my girls were unwrapping and playing with their gifts while I was at work! When I found this out, I started numbering the gifts. Not sure that helped as kids are going to be kids. When the cats away, the mice will play! I recently heard of parents that, supposedly wrapped gifts early, and when the kids misbehaved they would throw one gift in the fire and burn it. That probably would make kids be good?
Christmas is a time we can let our thoughts get the best of us in remembering sad things that have happened. Loss of parents, spouses, children, best friends, etc. tend to dwell on our minds. It is up to each of us to stop and remember the good times. Don’t lose your joy this holiday season! We are all blessed regardless of our situation and if you look around you can find someone having a harder time than you are!
Have a blessed week!
