Daylight Savings Time Change Starts Sunday
The 2019 Profile “Where Are They Now” magazine gave us an inside glimpse of local and former Scott County Residents.
I was very pleased to see that Gene Delcomyn was included in it. He is a friend of mine and my family. I came to know him as a young fella back in the 1960’s when his dad and I were in top management at the Sunbeam facility in Forest. One of the goals of that corporation, along with producing quality products at affordable prices, was to have a close knit work force. We accomplished that and soon blended into a “Sunbeam family.”
Gene’s parents, J.C. and Doris Delcomyn were blessed to have a son but never had a daughter. That changed when Gene married his wife, Bettie. Not only did they get Bettie as an adopted daughter, they immediately became grandparents to her children, Shanna and Chad Hodges.
When Gene’s parents health began to to fail they moved into Mississippi Health Care Center in Morton. When visiting with them they would pull out a folder of memories and reminisce about our Sunbeam days. Oh, but his main topic was about their son, Gene! He had notices of awards of his accomplishments in community service and charitable involvements.
In honor of J.C. and Doris I am sharing some of Gene’s love of some of his after hours of involvements. He was appointed by Governor Phil Bryant to serve on the Mississippi Home Corporation Board of Directors; Board of Governor's Wilson Research Foundation of Methodist Rehabilitation Center; Board of Directors Barnet Reservoir Foundation; Past Chairman of Board of Directors of Salvation Army and member Emeritus for 30 years of service; Serves on Advisory Board of Business at Jackson State University; Served on Boards of Make a Wish Foundation and Mississippi Red Cross. He and wife, Bettie, were honored jointly as Volunteers of the Year by the Junior Auxiliary of a Rankin County.
Gene was a member of Liberty Baptist Church of Forest in his youth. He and Bettie are active members of Pinelake Baptist Church.
His parents would be so proud to know this about their son and I am proud to share it in their memory.
Norris Homemakers are having their Quilt Show on March 14th. At Mississippi Care Center. The residents, especially those that used to do quilting really enjoy looking at their very colorful quilts. Public is welcome to come by to see them!
Tid-bit of February information of 2019: (According to Fengshul Master). This February came with (4) Sundays, (4) Mondays, (4) Tuesdays (4) Wednesdays, (4) Thursdays, (4) Fridays and (4) Saturdays. This only happens once every 823 years!
“The pedestrian light on the corner beeps when it’s safe to cross the street. I was crossing with an intellectually challenged co-worker of mine. She asked, “what is that beep for?” I explained that it signals blind people when the light is red. Appalled, she responded “What on earth are blind people doing driving?” She is a Government Employee!
I finally did it! Bought a new pair of shoes with Memory Foam insoles. No more forgetting why I walked in the kitchen! The older we get the better we used to be! The most valuable antique is an old friend.
Prayers needed: Carolyn Riser Haralson, Jimmy Cooksey and Sue Croxton. Sincere sympathy to the family of Hattie Goodson and Howard Wright in the loss of their loved.

“Where the Mississippi River meets the Gulf, not mixing with one another, and people say there isn’t a God? If He can tell the ocean to stop, then he can sure take care of anything in our lives!”
I recently heard on health news that honey is just as effective on a cough as cough medicine. I tried it and I agree. Might not in all situations, but it would be worth a try!
You never appreciate what you have till it’s gone. Toilet paper is a good example!
“As an independent taxpayer, I reject Nancy Pelosi pushing a bill of $37.5 million dollars to cover world wide abortion. My tax money is not for murder! In the old days politicians kissed babies to get elected. Now they murder them! A nation that kills it’s children in the womb has lost it’s soul.” (Mother Teresa -1910-1999)
We need to pray for our Nation’s governing body and all those pushing for abortion and the killing of just born babies.
This Friday, 3/8, is time for our monthly Senior luncheon. Bring your favorite dish and join us for fellowship, entertainment and food.
