Boots at Ft. Bragg
“More than 7,500 pair of boots are on display at Fort Bragg during July. This serves as a temporary memorial to service members, of all branches, who have died since 9/11. The boots have the service members photo and date of death. It shows family members these people are still remembered, honored and not forgotten!” (Quote from Charlotte Watson, Program Manager of Ft. Bragg’s Survivor Outreach program)
Good Hope School Reunion was a great successful event. We had a total of 24 registered, which included some spouses of graduates who did not attend this school, a daughter and caregiver. Those registered were: Zellene White Posey, Dina Summers Martin, James Johnston, Pauline Usry and husband Jerry Tedder, Opal McMillan Allen, Myra Wolfe and husband Terry Judge, Fay Moorehead and husband Bill Jones, Blanche McMillan Sorey, Peggy Smith and husband Kendall McDill, Ophelia Hitt Gibbs, Katie Hitt McCann, David Everett and wife Jeanette and daughter, Durwood Everett, Elizabeth McDill Harrell and husband Thurman Harrell, Don Triplett, Sibyl Gordy and guest Rose Mary Lathem.
Good Hope School was located in Scott County situated off old Highway 80 between Five Roads and Usry Town (This was what it was called years ago). It had good superintendents, teachers, outstanding basketball teams and supportive parents. Because of consolidation, it was closed after graduation in 1957. It was a tremendous loss to the community.
Good memories were discussed and some things enlightened us “how boys will be boys” when they get together in school. We know some could not come because of health issues. We hope this is a surge of revival for this annual event held the last Saturday night in July. If you were not present this year, please make a special effort to do so next year. Our thanks to Penn’s Fish House for delicious food and excellent service.

Many years ago, here in Scott County, it was safe to leave doors unlocked (day or night), tools out in the open, car keys left in cars, etc. This changed a few years ago and not for the better. It is sad how bad deeds can reverse things.
I bought a USB drive, for my computer, a couple days ago, checked out in self-checkout and when I was ready to use it, got a shock! It was in thick plastic jacket. My granddaughter said I should have had them take it off in store. Took a lot of banging with hammer to get it out. I paid for it and nothing stopped me from getting outside with it. This change was supposed to stop a thief from taking it.
One of local stores has put hair products and razor blades where customers have to ask for them and does not let customers in store with big handbags. This affects all of us as price goes up to make up for losses in businesses. I certainly hope we won’t have “copy cats” opening the ice cream and giving it a lick with their tongue and putting it back in freezer!
Does this sound familiar? As a boy was walking one day with his father, he suddenly asked. “Beside the songs of the birds, do you hear anything else?” “Yes,” the boy answered, “the sound of a wagon.”
“Excellent” he said, “and is it loaded or empty?” “How do you know if we haven’t seen it?” “Very easy,” Dad said, “because of the noise it makes. The emptier the wagon is, the greater noise it makes.” The boy said, “Every time I see someone talking too much, bragging what he has and belittling others, I seem to hear I hear my father’s words. The emptier the wagon the greater the noise it makes!”
Fox News Release: Rush Limbaugh said “Stand Up For Betsy Ross T-Shirts raised over 2 Million dollars for the non-profit Tower Foundation. Rush’s wife came up with this idea after the former San Francisco 49’ers quarterback, Colin Kaepermick reportedly urges Nike to NIV the release of their sneaker. This sneaker featured a Betsy Ross Flag and he said it perceived slavery! The foundation helps families of fallen police officers, first responders, soldiers —many that left grieving widows and children. These new funds enabled the foundation to immediately pay off the mortgages of six heroes and that is just the beginning. Out of something BAD came something GOOD!
Have a God blessed week and don’t hide your Christian light under a bushel. Let it shine, let it shine!
