Men in Blue
September 21st was the day to “Thank a Police Officer.” We tend to not think about what they are facing each minute on the job. When they leave home and say goodbye to their family, this may be their last time! When they are sent out to an emergency situation, this may be their last time! The possibilities that they face, all during their day’s work, are beyond our deepest imagination. A big thank you to all that wear the blue!
On the TV show Jeopardy the final question was, “How many steps does the Honor Guard walk across the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Washington, D.C.?” All three missed it! “He walks 21 steps and then pauses 21 seconds, after his about face to begin his return walk. The significance of 21 reflects the Twenty One Gun Salute, the highest honor given any military or foreign dignitary.”
(This was of special interest to me. My husband, Billy Gordy, served in the Army Honor Guard. He was offered a try out for this honorable position of which he declined.)
Another interesting part of the Honor Guard article is that when “the 2003 hurricane Isabella was approaching D.C. the U.S. Senate took two days off. The soldiers guarding the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier were given permission to suspend their assignment. Soaked to the skin, marching in the pelting rain of a tropical storm, their guarding the tomb was not an assignment, it was the highest honor that can be afforded to a serviceman. They respectfully declined the offer, no way, sir!”
Another thank you is extended to the American Farmer! They provide food for our table and clothes for our backs, They make this all possible, sorry kids — it just doesn’t start at Walmart!

It’s only 26 days (from the day you read the paper) until the “GO TELL AMERICA with Rick Gage Crusade” will be here! There is much work to be done! The biggest, most important one, is pray, pray for lost souls to accept Jesus. Everybody can do this and no extra exertion is required.

I was fueling up my car in Brandon this past week. The Lovebugs were swarming like bees. I had to fight them off my face and head as well as try to keep them out of my gas tank area. Looking up their migration habits, it said they were extremely attracted to the smell of gasoline. To my sorrow, it said they could stick around way into the middle or last of October? Having a white car is not a good thing either!
This past Saturday night, Janet Culpepper and I, Lee and Holly Thompson and Luke and Tracey Thompson, attended the “Salsa Mississippi Club and Studio and Applause Dance Factory “Midnight in the Garden of Latin and Ballroom” Dance Showcase. Pam Jeffries, my daughter, was featured, in one of the 16 dances, the “West Coast Swing” dance with Jim Frechette. We all enjoyed their performances, food and fellowship!
Choose Joy! Don’t wait for things to get simple or better. Love will always be complicated. Learn to be happy right now. Otherwise, you will run out of time! We can’t often choose our circumstances, but we can control our reactions and emotions. Choose Joy!
