Legacy representatives tour Archives/History and Civil Rights Museum
Our prayers are with the family of the late Mr. Rusty Louis, son of Mrs. Ella Fulton, who passed Wednesday, December 13th. Memorial services will be held Saturday, December 23rd at New Friendship M. C. Church (Highway 80) at 2:00 p.m. Please remember his family in your prayers, parents Ella Fulton and Millard Adams, his son. Javardrick Louis, and siblings Essence Fulton, Jonathan Louis, Ryan Louis and Robera Fulton. Evans Memorial Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Congratulations to Morton native and Olive Branch Police Officer Henry Minor on his recent honor. He was honored in Sunday’s ceremony as Olive Branch Police Department First Runner Up to Officer of the Year! We are so proud of Officer Minor and join others in sending congratulatory greetings. He and his wife, Mrs. Billistris Minor, were quite surprised. Officer Minor was a key player in Save Our Youth Through Community Action when he was employed at the Morton Police Department and one of the founders of the Six Man Mentoring Club. Kudos to Officer Minor!!!!
Special thanks to Forest High School and Hinds Community College graduate Chris Macon for his assistance and volunteering with the Legacy administrative unit. He is employed by Estes Express in Richland and commutes daily to be able to be of assistance to his mother, Mrs. Carolyn Macon, and his family and church (Concord M. B.) We appreciate his acts of contribution and assistance! Way to go Chris and Kudos to you!!
Congratulations to the Bound To Excel Mentors Andre Hollis, Jody Matheny, Elmer Lowery and Roy Lowery for their special Christmas gift to their young male mentees. The young men travelled to Jackson and toured the MS State Capitol at the invitation of Representative Tom Miles. What a wonderful experience!
We salute the Nu-Pi Zeta Chapter of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated for continuing to invest in our youth. Their traditional pageant was held Sunday, December 19th at Crudup-Ward Center with more than 15 young participants who shared their etiquette and academic talents. Way to go Zetas! James Burwell, III (Tre’) celebrated his 7th birthday three days before his birthday. He and friends celebrated Sunday, December 17th at the Launch Trampoline Park in Pearl where they were welcomed by Joey the Kangaroo. Joining in the celebration were Yanella and Malik Youdji, Ashleigh and Alex Mason, Taylor Longmire, Caelyn and Courtney Funches, and Melody and Madyson Harvey. Parents in attendance were James and Constance Burwell, Teselyn Funches, Barbara Longmire, and Malcolm and Jessica Harvey. Grandma Nonnie was under the weather and could not attend but she watched the fun via face time. Happy birthday Tre’!!
Legacy Education and Community Empowerment Foundation, Inc. and East Central Community College representatives were special guests of the MS Department of Archives and History Thursday, December 14th and they enjoyed a tour of the MS Civil Rights Museum. They also participated in an official program at the Old Capitol Museum – House Chambers. Dr. Jeanne Middleton Hairston was the coordinator and welcomed all four groups to the event where the theme was “Where Do We Go From Here?” Other organizations were Margaret Walker Alexander Center at JSU, Jim Hill High School and St Mark’s Episcopal Church (Jackson) and The Hill County Project (Benton County) and Rust College. It was a most interesting, enjoyable and informative experience. Representing Legacy and participating in the presentations were Legacy volunteers Andrew Crudup and Dorothy Pinkston, Tougaloo College student Evany Gray and East Central student Billy Rashod Gray. They received an excellent rating and enjoyed answering the audience’s questions. Legacy President Constance Slaughter Harvey was under the weather but received calls of congratulations for the excellent presentations and representation. Hats off to Evany and Rashod and to Mr. Crudup and Mrs. Pinkston!!! Way to go!
