Farewell to Trailblazers and Community’s Pillars
We are sorry to learn of the death of Mr. Herman Patrick, former Scott County Constable, who transitioned Tuesday, January 23rd and was memorialized Friday at New Hebron Primitive Baptist Church. Rev. Floyd McConnell officiated and delivered the eulogy. Our prayers are with his family. He will be remembered as a courageous trailblazer. He will be missed.
Our prayers are with the families of Mesdames Geneva Moore Sims and Maude Jones. These ladies transitioned after many good years of service to others. We salute their lives of service and extend our prayers to their families.
The 102-year-old life and legacy of Mrs. Maude Jones will be celebrated Thursday, February 1st at 11:00 at Little Rock M. M. Church with Pastor Sheldon Thomas officiating and delivering the eulogy. Our prayers are with her family especially her children, J. C., Barbara, Shirley, and Wilbert. Please keep them in your prayers.
Mrs. Geneva Moore Sims’ life and legacy of 105 years will be celebrated Wednesday, January 31st at 1:00 at Galilee Baptist Church in Smith County. Our prayers are with her family especially her son, Rev. Johnny (Patricia) Sims and family. At the time of her death, she was a resident of Bedford Care in Newton. Please keep her family in your prayers.
Our prayers are with the family of the late Mrs. Mary Battle, a/k/a “Baby Sister”, who transitioned Thursday, January 25th. Homegoing services are scheduled for Saturday, January 27th at Greater Deliverance COGIC at 11:00. She was always full of joy and displayed a cheerful smile. Please keep her family in your prayers.

Save Our Youth through Community Action stakeholders held their 2018 First Work Luncheon Monday at Penn’s Steakhouse. Members reviewed last year’s programs and outlined their 2018 plan of action.
Among those participating in this SOYTCA planning session were Henry Slaughter, Andrew Crudup, Octavia Kincaid, Elmer Lowery, Dorothy Strong, Andre Hollis, Jody Matheny, Roy Lowery, Will Jones, Dorothy Pinkston, Pat Henderson and Constance Slaughter-Harvey. The next meeting is scheduled for March 26th and interested persons are invited to attend.
