Our community is saddened by the tragic death of William Lamond “Honey Bun” Sturkin, son of Joe Ann Pheal Pierce and William Sturkin. Lamond, a Hattiesburg resident, was riding his motorcycle at the time of the collision Wednesday, November 20th. Please keep his family in your prayers. Funeral arrangements are public viewing at Holifield Funeral Home Friday, November 29th from 12:00 noon until 6:00 p.m. and homegoing celebration at 11:00 Saturday, November 30th at 11:00 at Christian Triumph M. We are saddened by the death of Mrs. Earnestine “Shane” Parrott Bobbitt who transitioned Monday, November 18th and was memorialized Sunday, November 24th at Murray Temple Rebirth Church of God in Christ. Elder J. J. Thompson officiated and delivered the eulogy. Missionary Clara Thompson was the mistress of ceremony. A beautiful “Celebration of an Angel” was held in loving memory of Breosha Murray who transitioned Wednesday, November 13th following a vehicular accident in Prentiss. This celebration was held at the Murray Temple Rebirth Church of God in Christ where Pastor Elder Terry Frazier officiated and delivered the eulogy. Ms. Katie Frazier was the mistress of ceremony and among other program participants were Brothers Evan and Billy Johnson, Minister Douglas, Ja’Sya Funches, Missionary Michell Frazier, Sister Kizzie, and Brittany Parrott. We enjoyed the Forest Municipal School District Celebration and Lunch held Thursday, November 21st at the Hawkins Middle School cafeteria. The food was delicious and the hospitality was great. Special thanks to Superintendent Norwood and staff for this treat. Commendations to the Middle School students who displayed exemplary behavior.
Legacy Change Agents visited Bedford Convalescent Home in Newton and shared Thanksgiving cards and fruit with residents who enjoyed the visit. According to several residents, they enjoyed seeing the young students and also enjoyed talking with them and sharing their stories. Special appreciation to the Bedford administration and to the Change Agents who travelled to Newton and shared Thanksgiving love. Change Agents were excited about the experience. We enjoyed the Community Bank 2019 Golden Advantage Annual Thanksgiving Celebration held Thursday, November 21st at the Forest Methodist Church Family Life Center. This annual gathering of friends was highlighted with delicious food and music. Chris Strebeck gave the welcome and Drew Evans shared a special prayer. A special thanks to Francis Madden who joined other Community Bank staffers in welcoming participants.
The movie, Harriet, is highly recommended if you are intrigued with the history of America and the stories of soldiers and warriors. Harriet, a/k/a Moses, was a slave who escaped and returned to her home to provide assistance to other slaves who had their eyes set on freedom.
Lynch Chapel U. M. Church family celebrated Youth Sunday, November 24th with a concentration on Human Trafficking and Drugs. Retired MBN Agent Jimmie Nichols, Jr. was the guest speaker and he was introduced by MHP Michael Holifield. His speech, including visual presentations, was most informative and attracted the attention of the youth members. The Praise Dancers were most impressive. Pastor Shirley Wilder delivered her sermon which referenced the need to educate youth and families to the dangers of drugs and human trafficking. We enjoyed the informative program.
