Bobcats, Rebels advance in 2020 MHSAA playoffs

There won’t be a rematch of the 2020 Battle of the Golden Chicken this year after Forest and Morton bowed out of the football playoffs with second round losses. Had both the Bearcats and the Panthers won last week they would have faced off this Friday night. Forest fell to Raleigh 50-28 and Magee downed Morton 27-10.

Sebastopol and Scott Central, on the other hand, advance to round three for the Rebels and round two for the Bobcats after impressive wins last Friday night. Scott Central advances in 2-A after Bogue Chitto forfeited last week due to COVID-19 concerns. The Rebels are scheduled to play Enterprise on Friday with kickoff at 7:00 at Enterprise. As of press time on Tuesday plans were for an “open gate” with no limit on admission. Tickets will be available at the gate only. The winner of Friday night’s game will face either Taylorsville or Union on November 27.

Sebastopol enjoying one of their best seasons ever, in spite of the coronavirus pandemic, handily defeated Ethel last week 41-7. With the win, the Bobcats improve their record to 10-2 on the season. They travel to Simmons in Hollandale to confront the Blue Devils in round two of the 1-A playoffs Friday night with kickoff set for 7:00.

Simmons won 36-10 last week against Resurrection Catholic.

The winner of Friday nights game will face either Lumberton or Stringer on November 27.
