We are saddened by the passing of Mrs. Annie Ward Walker on Wednesday, July 20th. Our prayers are with her family members who recently experienced the death of their sister, Freda, and her niece Christy Gales. Participating on this beautiful Celebration of Life were mistress of ceremony Janet Williams, Mattye C. Evans, R.C. Williams, and his granddaughter Hallie Millsaps. Mrs. Sallie Thames received a beautiful Home Going July 21st at her home church, New Bethel M. B. Church. Her pastor, Rev. Vincent Hopkins, officiated and delivered her eulogy. Mrs. Susie Jackson Boyd was the mistress of ceremony, and other program participants were Shirley Thames Horton, Mrs. Thames’ daughter, Annie Shepard, and family friends. A beautiful Funeral Mass was held for Mrs. Patricia Lucille Kaskie at St. Michael Catholic Church where Fr. Joe Tonos was the celebrant. Mrs. Rosie Mabry was the musician. Her children, Kristin Hagan, Alicia Kaskie and Daniel Kaskie participated in their mother’s Mass. She and her husband, the late Don Kaskie, were remembered as two of the founding members of St. Michael Catholic Church. Our prayers are with her family especially her children, Mark who resides here in Forest, and her other children who reside in Texas, namely Michael (Chanda), Kathleen Risher, Julianne Francis, Kristin (Al) Hagan, and Daniel (Alicia). The Kaskie family recently lost their brother, Fr. Brian Kaskie. It was a beautiful Mass Funeral. Please keep her children in your prayers.
The life and legacy of Dean Dr. Richard C. “Dick” Johnson was celebrated Tuesday, July 19th at Tougaloo College’s Woodworth Chapel. Tougaloo Chaplain Rev. Maxine Bolden officiated. Former students and colleagues paying tribute to Dean/Professor Johnson were Constance Slaughter-Harvey who reflected on his contributions as an educator and activist, Tray Hairston and Ester Young who remembered his impact as their professor, Asoka Srinivasan who recalled his contributions as a colleague, his son Eric Richard Johnson shared his memories and played “The Impossible Dream,” his daughter, Tawny Elizabeth Johnson who shared her memories and played “Scarlet Ribbons.” Dr. Robert Smith and Dr. Oliver Rice shared their memories of this gifted, committed, kind, courageous Good Samaritan. Our prayers continue to be with his wife, Dr. Margaret Ann Wodetzki, and his children, Eric Richard and Tawny Johnson, grandchildren Xenia and David, and his sister Gail Schauer.

We enjoyed chatting with former Forest High School counselor Donald Renfroe who has retired from William Carey and is now enjoying free time. He sent his best regards to former students and colleagues.
Congratulations to Ephraim Ringo, graduate of Forest High School, East Central Community College, and MS State University (MSU). While at Forest High, he enjoyed baseball, football, and other activities. He earned a Master’s Degree from MSU. Ephraim has taught middle school at Horn Lake and enjoys working with and teaching youth. He recently participated in a mission trip to South Asia where he worked with those in need and shared the love of Jesus through evangelization. He is the son of Tim (Michelle) Ringo and the grandson of Bobbie Ringo. We’re proud of this former Slaughter Scholar.
Sherrie Louise Moore was surprised by her children and friends Sunday, July 17th with a Birthday and Retirement Party held at Reach One on One. She and her guests enjoyed the steaks and other delicious food, fellowship, and fun. On the following Wednesday, she was again treated and travelled to Biloxi for her favorite dish, crab legs, at Treasure Bay. She was accompanied by Bonnie Floyd Stowers, Rita Parker Johnson and Glenda Viverette. Sherry’s customers will surely miss her smile and positive attitude.
