On Wednesday, November 29, in the Scott County Courthouse, a retirement reception was held for Lee Anne Livingston Palmer, Scott County Chancery Clerk. In attendance were family, friends, colleagues, and community leaders, there to celebrate Palmer and the work she has done in her 12 years as Scott County Chancery Clerk.
State Representative Tom Miles read and presented a proclamation from the Mississippi State Legislature, recognizing her hard work and dedication to public service. State Senator Tyler McCaughn also presented Palmer with a proclamation from the Mississippi State Senate. Chancellor Robert Logan gave remarks about his time working alongside her and expressed his best wishes for the next chapter in her life.
Family members and colleagues also spoke about Palmer, her attributes as well as her effectiveness as a chancery clerk. It was clear to all present that Palmer will be sorely missed in the Scott County Courthouse.
Palmer had this to say about the day’s events as well as her time in office:
“I want to thank everyone who had any part in honoring me with a retirement ceremony. It has been the greatest honor of my life to serve as Scott County Chancery Clerk for the past 12 years. I want to thank Diane Derrick, Lauren Sanders, and Tonya Underwood for their hard work and excellent service to the public in the chancery clerk’s office. Also, I enjoyed working with the board of supervisors as their clerk. I want to thank Kim Fultz, Scott County Comptroller, who helped me in so many ways down through the years and is such an asset to Scott County. Also, our payroll administrator, Stacey Smith, was always there to guide me in matters of payroll and human resources.
“Jason Price, our purchase clerk, always offered me his friendship and support, and for that I am grateful. I am also thankful for the good working relationships that I had with our tax collector, Allison Crapps; our circuit clerk, Becky Gray; youth court administrator, Lisa Addy; Sheriff Mike Lee; the sheriff’s office transport team; Judges Bill Freeman and Adam McCurdy; and Chancellor Robert Logan. County government is definitely a team effort, and I was blessed to work with a great team. I want to thank all of the elected public officials who have helped me through the years.
“My proudest accomplishment in office has been helping so many people who needed mental treatment and alcohol and drug addiction treatment. We have helped so many people through the years get the help they needed. Also, I am very proud of the project that the board of supervisors approved to preserve all of the land records dating back to the 1800s. This is an ongoing project, but when it is completed, any lawyer or abstractor can access land records online without having to come to the courthouse.
“Finally, thank you, Scott County, for allowing me to serve you these past 12 years, and I will always treasure my time in public service.”
