Thanksgiving Dinner will be served at Midway M. B. Church on November 17th immediately after service. Anyone is invited to Thanksgiving Dinner. It is called Thanksgiving because the people were so thankful for God’s Grace, that they had survived and were able to store up food for the winter. We still need to be thankful today.
On October 26 at 2:00 p.m. there was a birthday party for the now oldest living member in the community Eliza Jane “Janie” McClendon. Her birthday was October 25th and she was 89 years old. I am a firm believer who believes that you should enjoy life while you can because the day is coming when you will not be able to.
Those attending giving accolades were her daughter Irish McClendon and one of her sons Calvin “Oudie” McClendon. Other attendees were nieces Tammy Williams and Violet Peavy. Nephews were Wayne Williams, Jerry Williams and his wife Kaye. Her sister Sollie White Smith was there with her famous potato Salad. Other relatives and friends were Patty Odom, D’Arcy and his wife Carol Stowers and April Harrison.
The kitchen Committee prepared the majority of the food. The menu included, field peas, lima beans, squash and onions, corn casserole, ribs, fried chicken, sweet potato pudding, chicken and dressing, pound cake and ice cream. Janie loves vegetables. The kitchen committee includes Delie Shepard, Annie Stowers, Alice McCarter, Violet Peavy, and Jawaun Ross. If I missed someone, someone will tell me.
