Good Neighbors
We are looking forward to Black History Month during the month of February. Patty Odom will be in charge of the Black History Program. A traditional Soul Food meal will be served on the 4th Sunday in February. All foods will be home cooked.
Please remember Hope Lewis Townsend in your prayers. She was rushed to the hospital. Remember her, her husband, children and other family members in your prayers. This is a very trying time for them. I truly believe that as long as you are here and above ground God is not through with you yet. As Rev. Norman Hutchings sings, “God’s got a blessing with your name on it.” God has a blessing for each of us who woke up this morning and still living. You need to thank him for that blessing. That is an awesome blessing that some did not achieve today.

Sympathy to the Edwards family in the passing of my neighbor and good friend Van Edwards. He has suffered with his back for many years. Had surgery and further complications. He had pastured his horses in my pasture for many years. He kept the fences up and the pasture in very good shape. Did some clearing where need to be. He was a good guy, he and his wife Patty. If I was gone for a few days, he and Jerry Jones kept an eye on the place. Like I said earlier he was a good guy. Van’s knowledge was great, he would tell me how to do something or show me how to do it. They were a wonderful couple and my good friends. My shed was leaning, he and his brother Glynn came up and braced it. I did not ask them to do it, that was just the way he was, always helpful. I will truly miss this good man. When Glynn came up to the house and told me that Van was gone. I was just bewildered. I know Glynn thought I was off my rocker but I was just at a lost. I could keep on telling about his goodness. In life all things come to an end, good as well as the bad.
A young man that grew up living as my next-door neighbor passed last week Shane Jones. He was the son of Betty Jones and the late Jerry Jones. He was the brother of Stacey Jones Crosby. Shane you will be missed by all that knew you.
When we moved to where I live now, we had two black neighbors and the rest were white. There was never any racial disparity in the neighborhood. We lived in our house they lived in theirs. If someone needed help, we helped each other. When Katrina came through, Steve Martin and his son Russell came with my boys and worked to cut up and move a tree that was extremely large. I had tried to get the light company to cut the tree down because it was leaning over the road and light line when they were cutting back the right of way in July. They would not do it. Katrina came and tore down all of the light lines. I was out of electricity for three weeks. Steve and the boys opened the road for us to get out of the driveway. We always need to be helpers of each other.
