Announcements: The Mayor’s Annual Prayer Breakfast will be held on May 6 at the Activities Center, Farris Park beginning at 7 a.m. The First Annual Mayor’s Choice Award will be given to Mr. James “Jimmy” Farris in recognition of his tireless dedication to the people of Morton. This important award will be given hence forth to other citizens deemed worthy of the honor.
May Day in Morton featuring family fun, food, a variety of venders for shopping and entertainment will be held at Farris Park on Saturday May 7.
We Care Missions Food Distribution is scheduled for Friday, May 13 and Friday, May 26 at Morton United Methodist Church, 29 Church Street from 10 a.m.-12 noon.
Morton and Morton High School welcomes native son/MHS alum/Scott County Sports Hall of Fame honoree, Maurice Bowie back to the teaching/coaching staff at his alma mater. It is always a pleasure to have a chat with this outstanding young man/athlete. He will follow a most successful year as the ladies basketball coach at Lake High where the team won the MS 2-A State Championship.
MS-Morton Homemaker Volunteers will have their May club meeting at Morton Public Library on Wednesday, May 4 beginning at 1 p.m. Everyone is invited to attend. Refreshments are served.

Travelin’, visitin’ and such: Carol King Farris Thomas of Salt Lake City, Utah, former native of Morton has been in town visiting with her brothers and their families, A. B Farris, Jimmy Farris and David Farris. While here she was privileged to attend the Induction of her brother David into the Scott County Sports Hall of Fame, travel to the Gulf Coast with her brother A. B., attend the 160th Homecoming Reunion at the First Morton United Methodist Church where she attended her entire childhood/young adulthood.

The Career Women’s Luncheon held at the Activities Center-Farris Park on Wednesday, April 27, sponsored by the Morton Chamber of commerce was a great success. Chamber Chairman, Lisa Alford, her planning committee, Billy Meeks and his staff and all businesses/organizations for the beautifully decorated tables are to be commended for an outstanding event. Keynote speaker, Alison Rogers Dinkins was both interesting and educational sharing the time that she and her husband John along with their four children spent a year in Costa Rica experiencing the life and culture there.
